Unfortunately, no; I only know the model name by which they went after being rebranded by Koh-I-Noor (to be sold in Europe), and it is E500; a bit more about those Tombows can be found here.
I could not agree more. Maybe we will have a word, one of these days. If you are looking for specific pieces/styles/gimmicks/whatever, I am all ears, always.
FIVE PSD5’s ! Wow… Did you acquire them in a lot, or gradually over time? And I take it, years back when they were still a good bit behind the PILOT Hi-mecha series in resale value?
I remember when you could commonly pick up a PSD5 on eBay in moderately to lightly used condition for around $60 ~ $90 USD. Mint condition ones were around $100 ~ $120 USD. I had picked up a few brand news ones and a user grade one, then forgot about looking for the PSD5 for a while… only a couple years later, prices have truly surged.
I’ve been sorting through my relatives collection. They have been collecting since the early 60s, although there’s some older pieces. The majority was purchased new, some of it bought used at shows up untill the early 2000’s.
Mechanical pencils/lead holders make up about 10% of the collection. It’s all a bit overwhelming, but I definitely get it. Writing instruments, coming in all shapes, sizes, purposes and carrying their own history.
I’m in my late 30s myself, so it’s not like I didn’t experience a time when they were a common and daily tool. Shifting through 5000+ pieces (fountain, ballpoint, rollerball and pencils), can’t help but get a bit nostalgic.
Oh wow. You’ve got a real mother lode on your hands! Check out FPN for help regarding fountain pens. Great people there.
Are you planning to unload most of these on auction sites or used item sites?
Wow, trading, eh? So you are considering becoming a MP collector yourself? Bold move.
Pilot S15/0.3 with Pilot Neox Graphite 2B, Mitsubishi one F barrel with Signo 0.5 refill, Mitsubishi uni B, Mitsubishi Jetstream 4 with 0.5 mm refills. – In brief: pretty boring
I do love the jetstream design though. Something about the clip is all I wish were different but I don’t know what else I would do other than just more simple
I like it too, even though it’s pretty ordinary. By the way, there is no Jetstream 4 with 0.5 refills in this design but only one for 0.7 so I decided to equip the latter with 0.5 refills and remove the “0.7” marking from the clip
Isn’t there a refill now that’s 0.28?
Is that a different generation that does the very fine refill?
Yes, it is – it was introduced with the Jetstream Edge. Fortunately it has the same form factor so you could make a 0.28/0.38/0.5/0.7 Jetstream 4 pen
I think I have 8 or 9 PSD5s in varying condition—a couple are barely good for parts but most of them are normal or light wear. The recent prices are insane. I can understand why the PWP15s would go for a bit more, but not 10x. The only thing that’s different is the engraving on the center ring. To me, the earlier, more textured grips (1982 or earlier) are the far more desirable thing.
Could you get some shots on a white background of the PSD5 pencils with the different grips, and what the date codes you have for the different variants? Possibly for use in the Pentel Book.
And I need to update the Date Code article in the back for the oddball Date Codes, such as the PSD5/PWP15.
What’s the one 5th from the left?
I’ll try to get those to you in the next couple of days
If you’re referencing this post of @Raybonche, I think it’s a Colleen Jib drafting pencil, similar to a Colleen Jib Extra K502 in another members collection.
If you type into the search “Colleen” you’ll find a post by @drifand referencing his Colleen collection.
There’s also further into the thread a post from @pearsonified about his madness of a Colleen collection where you’ll see even more from them.
That drafting pencil and the K502 are something I’m searching and searching for endlessly.
There are similar pencils made by KIN, and a Criterium Conte, also Fuji Corona.
The one you’re asking about if you zoom in is a Colleen.
Very difficult to find (for me at least)
It is a fun day, because I have received a special package from the Rotring Museum containing the black version of the Altro mp. Special thanks to @Dux for sorting this out
This model shares a similar look to the 900 series and I have wanted this variant for a while. I think it looks the best in this and blue color.
Thanks for the mention…glad it arrived safe and sound.
They look good.
This Altro is a bit special since it doesn’t have that usual (ugly) white nib size ‘0.7mm’ writting.
Which is actually useless since no other sizes were ever released.
Would have been cool if 900 was an auto.
