I started Knockology to bring together people who share a fascination with mechanical pencils—and to give the knowledge we uncover a lasting home.

Social platforms are great for starting conversations. They’re less suited to preserving a carefully researched finding and making it easy for someone to find later. A useful observation can disappear into a feed almost as quickly as it arrives.

Before this forum, Knockology was a much smaller group. We compared specimens, dug through catalogs, took pencils apart, questioned what we thought we knew, and occasionally figured something out.

This category brings those early conversations and discoveries into our shared archive, with credit to the people who contributed. Some findings still hold up; others were working theories that deserve another look. We’ll preserve that distinction—and welcome new evidence, corrections, and additions.

It’s a little of our history, and a lot of knowledge worth keeping.
