Yep, at least 3 major formats! Parker G2, ISO A2 (slim tip Euro pens), ISO G1 (used by some Paper Mate pens)… The Pan-Technico of ballpoints

The Tombow AirPress is an interesting one. It seems to be a unique spin some of the Fisher Space Pen’s features. When clicked, the AirPress applies air pressure to the ballpoint refill. The pressure is released when clicked again. This allows the pen to write upside-down or on dusty or wet surfaces. You know, things that happen all the time in a desk job like mine.

Although it is not marketed this way, I presume that it could also write in zero-G. But I imagine that it would not operate properly in a vacuum or extreme temperatures. I will report back next time I am in orbit.

Regardless of the unnecessity, I do appreciate unique designs/mechanisms like this and it writes pretty nice for a ballpoint.

The clear, and the yellow versions are my 2 faves for the AirPress. This was basically an ‘outdoors’ pen. The small triangular loop allows the pen to be attached to a lanyard and the chunky design with raised rubber strips make them ideal for use with gloves on. Tombow also made sealed compressed gas D1 refills for use in their Object XPA and Pixie compact pens, but this idea of simply compressing air into an ordinary refill when needed is probably a more affordable solution for most people.

I have a Fisher telescoping pen that is like those. Thank you for the model referrals!

I tried putting a Frixxion refill in another body. Used a rubber thing to extend it a bit in the back.
The result was that the rubber spacer was air tight and when compressed (extended tip) it made the ink flow WAY to much.

Today I have two Hobby Tank’s, on the right, and a Cocobolo on the left, all using the PG5 internals to make something akin to the Accugraph series. The middle one has a solid silver grip and blue anodized titanium barrel. The Cocobolo barrel uses carbon fiber and resin to create truly one of a kind patterns. I added a HanPen clip to it, which, while a little long, I think completes any pencil.

This format is very popular among Korean craftsmen. And for good reason! There’s a surprising amount of customization that you can do with different grips and barrel materials and finishes.

Seriously. I see some on Mercari every so often, but there’s always one detail you’d wish were different. And the price

Nice being neighbors with Mr Hobby Tank, Monsieur Cocobolo, and Senór Hanpen!

Part of the fun of collecting is discovering unexpected connections between different products. In this case I had acquired a couple of plastic capped Pilot BP-P ‘stick pens’ a while back simply for their vibrant colors. Turns out they were made for Loft so they are not actual vintage items.

And while packing away a H-115 I noticed: Hey! The way the grip merges with the hex barrel is mighty similar! The raised all-caps lettering was also quite similar. I have no idea if the original BP-P was made in the same period as the H-115 but the evidence is mounting

How do you like the silver grip compared to the Ti?

Is that H-115 solid black? I’ve only seen transparent bodies so far: green, blue, red, black and white.
