I really liked the XS pencils. The translucent bodies and sloped grip really stood out.

Sheaffer’s CM-11, circa 1962
Propelling pencil (thin lead, 0.036 in / 0.9 mm)
Sold for $5 in 1961, which is equivalent to about $54 today.

These were sold as part of sets with the PFM III or the Imperial IV.
“CM” is the designation used in Sheaffer’s internal Service Manual (1961); it does not appear to have had a public model name. The suffix “11” indicates the black color.

The magazine advertisement dates from 1961, the year this Imperial collection was released. Note that the illustration is approximate and does not accurately reflect the appearance of the fountain pen and pencil between 1961 and 1962. The artist likely worked from a projected design rather than the final product. That clip style was eventually introduced in 1963, with the “LIFETIME” imprint, to mark Sheaffer’s 50th anniversary. From 1964 onward, a simplified version with the white dot and no inscription became the standard clip used on many Sheaffer pens.

I ordered a set of limited edition Orenz to poach the black clip and cone to make a set of all black Orenz. They look pretty neat but a small inconsistency with the barrels is my only minor issue. The 0.2 body has a matte finish while the 0.3 and 0.5 have a glossy finish.

I explored a nearby city today and found quite a few gems. The trip wouldn’t have been worth it if I hadn’t have come across this old store relatively early on in the day. The store owner took quick notice to me only checking out the mechanical pencils and told me how his store was a local distributor that had worked directly with Ohto in the past. Made sense because there were a lot of Ohto pens and mechanical pencils, including the three highlights, two SP-505P Promechas and an OP-1009 Promecha.

There were so many others as well, including quite a few Zebra Color Flights, but of course, none in black, Zebra Tects in every colorway imaginable, many discontinued colors of Pilot’s Hi-Tec C, and a handful of orange Pentel Vicunas, among loads of others. In the display case there were a few Ohto Tasches, but only one of them being a mechanical pencil, and blue at that (I must note that I limit myself to mostly black 0.5 mechanical pencils so as to not let collecting get tooo out of hand).

After all was said and done, the store owner surprised me with this eMicro Jedo 5000 box set for free and explained to me how Micro had first existed, but went bankrupt during the 1998 Asian Financial Crisis, and eMicro was the successor company made up of former Micro employees. I have one of these already, but in a different color, so I will gladly hold onto this one. It will hold a special place in my collection.

I also found this fairly beat up black Pentel XS, which I later would regret getting because, one, I already have one, and two, the next place I went to had 4 of them in pristine condition. I couldn’t bring myself to getting anymore of them because I had already spent a fair amount by this point, but I did manage to snag this Ergonomix Wing Grip in black there, so the regret was quickly forgotten.

Here’s everything from roughly 6 or 7 hours of exploration.

Man! Nice scores. Must be nice to have stores with stock like that still accessible.

Definitely is, but it’s very hit or miss. I probably visited close to 20 stores, or more, and a handful of them were closed, and besides two or three, none had anything outside of currently produced pencils or nothing at all.

Here’s what I pulled from the Smash list

Maybe you’d consider these? Haha just depends on how you sort by colors

Finally decided to try out the Yoshida Porter Drawing Pen Case that I saw a lot on Japanese SNS… which I still think is overpriced, but the design is perfect imo.

Also after a long break from this hobby my photography skills have deteriorated which is unfortunate :joy:

About 12~13 centimeters-ish? Not sure about the exact length cause I don’t have a ruler with me.

Really stunning collection. Can you show us blue Pentel 11 in detail?

Here it is.

I really like the very vintage color.
