They don’t come up very often… I’ll let you know if I find another

Hi that’s some old paper I had left over from college (so it’s pretty old :squinting_face_with_tongue:)

Newcomers. I wonder what the year of production could be. I know it may be printed on the inner tube of the P205s, but I do not like the idea of unsealing the packaging.

In 1986, between August and September, Pentel began advertising a logo featuring a strippled wiggly red ribbon background. I have never seen a straight, solid red ribbon before. If I’m correct, this logo should date back to Late-August to Early-September of 1986, representing a preliminary edition that was quickly replaced with the dashed-wiggly version.

Look at the P205 pencils and let me know the Mold Mark on them. It should be in the cutout below the name Pentel and to the right of JAPAN. That would tell the generation of the pencil and at least give a range of years.

I do not have them with me now, but I remember having some numbers between 40 and 59.

Those should be Generation 5 pencils (mold marks between 25 & 88). Timeframe between early-80’s and 1993.

Waw, so my speculation fits this time range! Niceee….

I have not seen the silver Tuff pop up very often.

600 is much better than twsbi imho

Fair enough. I like both, but to me the TWSBI Precision is the standard against which I measure other pencils. It’s as solid as a rotring 600 (if not more so), no tip wobble to speak of, retractable and ergonomically they are more or less the same. The real delta is the grip really.

Thanks for chiming in!

That particular Uchida surprised me—it’s quite pleasant to use

I am a bigger fan of the twist advance type than knock type from Uchida. But damn these look gorgeous. Haven’t yet written or sketched with it.
What I realized upon seeing it person is that it is actually more silver looking than bronze.

I think basically all Uchidas from that lineup are very hard to beat: the ensemble of virtues in almost every department is impressive. I got the 2.00mm leadholder from that series thanks to an amazing help by @amjacobs7, and it is extra pleasant. The Uchida Drawing Sharp D can behave otherworldly well when handled according to its peculiar shape and personality.

I was able to get one of these thanks to the amazing help of none other than @drifand , and I have to say it offers all the values of a Smash without any single hassle of those rubber cubes in the grip area — or the hassles related to the lack of those rubber blocs, once removed from the inside. Amazing pencil!
