I think the Vector pencils have a similar c-clamp collar on the tip like that on the Caran D’Ache 844 pencils. Need to locate the split in the collar so that you can squeeeeeeeeeeze and push the tip back and up into the body.

I would concur - it does not appear to be removable.

Here’s a close up of the retaining clip. Will need needle nose pliers to tease it off the groove. It is not ‘squeezable’ unlike the CDA 844.

Is there a way to date the PD345? The Pentel ID Book states that there is a date code underneath the clip, but I haven’t been able to find any.

Yes, but it’s underneath the part of the clip that wraps around the end of the body. Here’s a good thread, Taking Apart a Quicker Clicker

There is a code (but not a date code) imprinted on the inner side of the clicking bottom. Using it as a tool of identification is very difficult, as many collectors have likely changed parts over the years.

The “Clutch Point” is a very nice pencil, I found one by chance (red body, though), and decided that its safety-mouthpiece is particularly interesting, and environment-conscious.

After that, I got dragged into the rabbit hole, and bought a Penac Protti PRD105 (maybe there is a 0.7 as well), which I found sturdier, heavier, but all in all very pleasant to use, particularly for quick note-taking. The Protti is available on a EU-website distributing stuff for Kotobuki in Europe, at a more than decent price. If you like the Pilot Clutch Point, I wholeheartedly recommend the Protti.

This looks like a super-nice pencil (and the drawing is dope as well!). Did not know it came as well in 1.3.

I am in the process of getting a 0.5 piece, and I look forward to testing it thoroughly.

What’s that at the top? I’d love to see how the clip attaches to the body!

Made a ten minute hack to show how to make a ”nice enough” metal P200.

L&C HARDTMUTH (aka KIN, too, at some point) also make ballpoints ( along with propelling 1.18 mm pencils) in their “MEPHISTO” line… in regular and, well, self-named sizes

Then they do exist! I swear I saw a 2.00mm leadholder from KIN many, many years ago on Ebay, it was super-beaten-up with chipped paint, and the only distinctive feature was the golden (or was it silver?) imprint “Mephisto” on its hexagonal barrel. Never seen one after that, in spite of semi-regular searches.

Still, I spotted some listings for Mephisto copying lead cores for 2.00 mm diameter throughout these years, even though I ended up thinking they were destined to generic clutch pencils like the Totiens 827, or the KIN 5611.

Do you happen to have as well a “standard” 2.00mm Mephisto clutch pencil in blue/black/violet/whatever the original colour was? Just to confirm to myself that I have not completely lost my mind yet.

For that reason alone, glad to look…

Yes, at a certain point it is just about claiming and maintaining sanity.

Updated. Done, apart from removing some accidental scratches.
