I am starting to suspect that, in some situations, this is precisely the case. Time to make some more crazy offers for items which have been sitting around for a long time in the browser cache.
The WORST that will happen is you’ll find out the bare bottom minimum the seller will take!
Oh no! So there IS a raw aluminum Cd’A I need to track down. Pictures, pictures!
It even has the lead hardness stickers!
A Kalligraph by Witt from Nuremberg.

This ended up incredibly interesting
It’s been a minute…. The five loners were traded with @DarkwingDuck. The rest, most recent acquisitions.
Edit: and a VERY slow clap to the Ohto pen (and fellow package containees) that cost me 10 hours on hold with UPS…only to get it “returned to sender” and pay another delivery fee…. The package arrived three weeks late…. NEVER UPS…
My unpopular opinion…
The two Colleen draft pencils are the winners in that set.
The Gold did VERY much surprise me. It was a complete unknown to me, as well as a completely amazing surprise.
Do anyone happen to know its model number or if it originally came with a clip (I have ZERO clue how to find ANY Information about it
)
Edit: the Pentel was the biggest surprise of them all. It simply feels perfect while using. Bravo to Pentel. They’ve never been a favorite brand of mine, but wow…. I have ZERO criticism. Only applause.
Thank you again to @DarkwingDuck
Thank you!
Nice to see the Kitera bought by many of us.
So, @amjacobs7 , these are the pictures of the CdA “raw aluminum” I got. In hindsight, there is probably a coating on the barrel, as the more I play with it, the less it feels “bare” under my fingertips.
This leadholder was issued as a commemorative piece for the first 100 years of Caran d’Ache; an interesting feature is the double ruler on the barrel — one in centimetres, the other in inches — and the bright red rear button.
As for a real all-aluminum Fixpencil, without any coating… I may have news coming, but I have to send a couple of emails first.
Nice! Thanks for the pics. The cone looks more machined and the hex edges sharper without the black paint.
Yes, it is indeed “brighter” without looking shinier.
In the meantime, I took out the scale to take note of the weight, after removing the lead core to get the very minimum: my “regular” Fixpencil 22 (a relatively new acquisition, with a slightly newer logo, with a capital “D” in “Caran d’Ache”) adds up to 9.83g, roughly 0.347oz; on the other hand, the Fixpencil 22 Metal only requires 6.9g, or 0.243oz, with a 30% reduction I really do not know how to explain — the painting alone cannot be that heavy.
This commemorative Fixpencil flies in one’s hand, it is almost magical, in a good sense.
I really like your way of describing things!
