Name that CLUTCH!

As I somehow managed to guess the answer to the previous round, here is a new instalment of Name that PENCIL or PEN!

However, I thought it would be fun to put a twist on it, so it’s time for… Name that CLUTCH!

There can’t be many two-jaw clutches out there that look exactly like this, but it was the first time I had ever come across this pencil so hopefully it’s not too obvious.

Why is this game so hard.

I’m going with Colleen.

@Alan, that’s a fascinating clutch–never seen it before.

I’m going to guess, Berol Turquoise?

Good guesses both, but it’s neither of those.

I’m going to save everyone a lot of pain by stating now that this is not a Japanese pencil.

OK, going out on a limb… Skilcraft?

Based on the color, and being “not Japanese”, and being a clutch pencil, I’m guessing a Mars 780 but that’s a guess because I’ve never seen one in person, nor its insides.

No joy yet. Just for scale, that’s 0.5 mm lead.

I think we’re being Scripto’d.

Nope, although I can see where you’re coming from.

Wrong side of the Atlantic.

Sigh. I’ve never felt so useless. Lol

Yeah, after I posted that I realized that’s nowhere near 1-2 mm :man_facepalming:

OK, is it 1970’s or 1980’s era?

To me, the plastic looks too new for 1960’s… even with a well kept specimen. But with the strange 2-prong clutch, I’m thinking 1970’s. Maybe… Sheaffer?

Oh wait… “wrong side of the Atlantic” in response to Scripto., then it can’t be USA.

Is it early Stabilo?

You’re getting warmer, longitude-wise. I would guess it dates from the late 1960s or early 70s, but can’t really be sure because I have never seen it in print.

Ballograf?

You’re in the right geographical area, but it’s not Swedish.

Is this from any Castell or Caran d’Ache or a Stadtler?

No, no, and thrice no.

Berol Turquoise, the tip shape gives it away (as does the resin color)

Penol Superfine

Doesn’t the berol have a male threaded tip?
