What's your MOST used MP?

Discussing rarity, number owned, price, aesthetics, features or ‘what’s currently fashionable’ is all very good - but which MP gets the most ‘in-hand’ time for you? And - if you know - why?

For me - it’s the Platinum Pro-Use II MSD-1500A (the ‘Fatinum’). Being left handed - I love the weight, balance and the thickness makes for a less tiring grip.

(… and it’s got a little orange band around the tip! )

Tombow MONO zero, Pilot H327 and H329, all with 2b leads. These examples were made with those 4 pencils.

Lamy2000 0.5mm has been my main choice in the office for 10+ years.

At home its YOL Deco 34, or other YOL. Make me feel rich

Over the years… the Bic Matic for sure. Used them all throughout my school years and college. Over the past 10-15 years, probably the Kokuyo Enpitsu, Staedtler Triplus Micro, Pentel Twist Erase QE405, Pentel Graph 1000 For Pro, or the Pentel Sharplet II. More recently, I’ve been enjoying the Paper Mate Clear Point Elite, Faber-Castell Grip Plus and the Penac Chubby. It’s so hard to just use one when I have so many nice ones in the collection.

@ThirdeYe - That’s a LOT of choice! I’ve only got about 30 MPs in my hoard - but (luckily - due to reviews, comments and advice mostly found here) - not a bad one among them!

That YOL Deco 34 sure is fancy!

The Staedtler 925 25 serves me good. In aluminum stick we trust!

Probably different versions of the Pilot H-215

Other notables:

  • Colleen Jib WK-1035
  • Spoke Design (various pieces)
  • Staedtler 925 03 as my “desk 0.3” (I keep one of these on hand for small markings on my work sheets)

The single pencil I owned the longest and used the most is a Smash, bought in a store in 1995 or thereabouts.
Currently most used is a Kerry with S20 grip and Orenz tip as it is the one I carry the most.

Koh-I-Noor 5616 leadholder…been using that model ( the GOAT of holders) since 1968, Wore the paint and knurling off the first one…now have tweaked a couple of them with CF barrels…speeds up my drafting..

Recently, I’ve been using the TKmatic L the most. I found a dented but otherwise functional example for a great price, so I don’t feel bad using it as a beater.

Kerry with an S20 grip… (it’s imperative that you share some pic of this).

Yes, I saw this thread, now I remember the Kerry cap with the S20 body and the other models, they’re really good.

My most used mechanical pencil is the STAEDTLER Microfix S 773 05.

I bought it in 1981 and used it until around 1998. In the mid-1980s I got some Staedtler Micrograph F pencils but used these only for technical drawing. Yes, I’m that old

This Microfix was my favourite writing instrument back then, and that left its mark. The marking has worn off, the barrel is discoloured, the inside of the clip is corroded, the metal parts are scratched and two cracks where the barrel meets the tip are fixed with super glue but the pencil still works perfectly today. Needless to say, the Microfix is enjoying a well-deserved retirement and has a special place in my personal pencil museum.

By the way, I find the idea of having had and used only one mechanical pencil for so long and not wanting any other very strange.

I would like to share with you a similar story to Gunther’s @Gunther.

My first mechanical pencil from Staedtler - Micro 775 05. It was bought for me by a friend who I saw it with at the time (and I was a bit envious of it :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:). It was around 1992, I was still in elementary school.

This pencil was with me at my high school entrance exams (I still remember it now). I drew with it all through high school, and it went through university with me. I continued to use it afterwards (the body around the push button was glued several times). This hard work took its toll on it, and around 2018 it fell apart. I glued it back together and it is enjoying a well-deserved rest in my collection.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to draw and write as much with any of my favorite pencils in my collection as I can with this one… I’m sorry for the way it looks today, but it just couldn’t hold up anymore:pensive_face:.

The picture shows the second one, new, unused from my collection for comparison.

Yes, I am that old also .

PS: Note that this is not a standard Micro (it has a different tip). It is probably a model that followed or preceded another (the tip is the same as the Micro F).

I don’t have either in my possession still but as a little guy, I loved the yellow papermate twist tip pencils. They made the best hi hat sound when I was drumming/tapping on my desk.

I also loved the “Yikes” pencils and their crazy designs.

I also loved the Uni oval/bubble packs of lead refills because they felt good to hold and something about removing and replacing the cap was very satisfying.

I’m currently drifting back to standing at the “school store” looking at these things!
