What is the leadholder in the center?
So many!
Beautiful
Pilot is my favorite! I just think they’re so classy. Pentel and Tombow have really striking and memorable designs, but something about Pilot does it for me. Plus their etched pieces are chef’s kiss!
Does anyone also have a Pentel 11 with hardness markings? I personally see this for the first time in my life…
Hey Gary (and gang),
I was in France a couple of weeks ago trying to battle (badly) jet lag so I tumbled back through this thread. And of course something caught my eye: The Acme Studios Frank Lloyd Wright! I managed to track down the only MP/BP 2-in-1 available anywhere in the world and it was from shipped from Illinois no less. And it was on my desk when I touched down back in Los Angeles.
Only trouble is, neither side rotates as shown. The ballpoint doesn’t roll out when I twist right and the MP sleeve doesn’t rotate out when I twist left. The knock doesn’t knock either.
I unscrewed the tip, then the body and played with it a bit but I didn’t want to break it. Look, I know absolutely nothing about the mechanics of MPs (or BPs for that matter). It’s above my pay grade. I would assume that ACME sourced the mechanisms from a third party; that they didn’t make them in-house. I’ve sent a repair inquiry a couple of days ago to ACME, I think is based in Hawaii now and I haven’t heard back.
Or, on the off chance, is there anyone who you might be able to steer me to who could take a gander and pull off a miracle, bringing it back to spec? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, it’s a brick.
cheers,
elliot
Maybe it’s a pendulum selector design? You rotate the whole pen so that the left or right side faces up and then you push the button down.
Thanks for the suggestion Kelvin, but it didn’t work. Unlike the Tombow there is no “release” button and the knock doesn’t eject the proper tip. Plus there are no symbols at the top.
Holding out the ACME gets back to me.
I’m going to find some leftover Letraset and stencil in my initials for a one-off ‘K’ special!!
A short pen for a short work week. The Fisher Bullet Space Pen in brushed chrome. I have a raw brass version with a fine point being delivered today which I am excited to see how it patinas over time.
