Nice S3’s! I like the translucent bodies. Are the internal mechanisms identical to the S10?
I have no idea, I’ve never bought the other models. I bought the 0.9 because of @First_Sail recommendation and i saw the 325 clear. Kind of spiraled from there to these.
I think you’d like an S10, with knurled grip. Very nicely done. Great value, too.
I’m not going to lie, all of the talk about them recently has been making me look into them. I’m not sure I want the wood body but the right color will probably get me to go for a s10
The S10 is also a translucent body in a variety of colors. It’s the S20 that’s woody. @Pdunc67 just did a great video on combining the S10 grip onto a wood body S20, which is a pretty sharp looking result.
Are the three in the middle older? They have a different marking.
I’m not sure
Either they’re Japan only or they’re older. I took the stickers off of the others but here’s the sticker on the odd ones.
Got in a little MP/BP haul (includes an all black M4-1052). One little cheap gem in the mix was this:
Seller had it shown with a nasty dent in the eraser cap, but otherwise in pretty much near mint condition (sans sticker), for about $11. I have a scrappy black Pentel Kerry 5 in black with some body gouges (can’t really be polished out). Perfect eraser cap, which became the donor for this Sky Blue Kerry. I love little bargains like this. The color is really gorgeous in hand. I like the contrast of the shiny metallic turquoise cap to the more matte “balsamic” turquoise body.
Here’s the set, minus some etched steel Jaguar ballpoints that also came:
The 925-85 is better than I thought it would be. It feels a little more “together” than the vintage. But I need to do a full tear-down photo and part-by-part comparison.
The Uni M4-1052 is in NOS shape. Works beautifully. This model series is such a great affordable alternative to the 2050.
OHTO NBP-1005M & NBP-1005G Needlepoints. They feel great. They look great. Disappointment though on the refill. I thought they’d take the same one as the FLAT-C (PG-105NP), but they use a slightly thinner one. Also, while the nose cone of the NBP-1005M looks exactly like the one on the FLAT-C, it is not compatible. The screw thread diameter is just a little more narrow. Won’t fit. Otherwise… that banded knurled grip is really great. The NBP-1005G has a silicone/rubber like sheath that has enlarged a bit over time so it’s not a perfect fit any longer. Not terrible, but… a little bit of an eyesore. The sleeve slides off, so it could be used without it.
PILOT MR pencil is sealed NOS with sticker, and I was able to test function through the plastic. Working fine.
I wrote about the Pentel Kerry earlier.
This feels like a perfect candidate for a 3D-printed replacement part.
Can 3D printers use flexible material, aside from rigid materials like plastic and metal?
Nice catch! I’m particularly fond of the TOMBOW SH-1500LP. You were fortunate to find one with a sticker. Did you get a good deal on it? Sometimes you can get them for below market value when lucking out on the bidding competition, or a low price Mercari listing before someone else grabs it. Here’s one without the clip but with sticker that someone got for ¥14k: LINK. Another sold for ¥18,888 with clip but no sticker: LINK. The Uchida Drawing Sharp D is more commonly found. Ones without the plastic clamshell box and missing clip can go for less than half the cost of a nice condition SH-1500LP (like so, HERE). Now you need the SH-1500LP in 0.3 mm!
Not that I know of. But I thought a grey plastic printed part would look pretty spot on. Plus you can control the depth of the grooves for comfort and preference. Or totally replace it with a lattice grid etc
Yes, I could see doing a plastic that has a little give to it… so it could stretch over the lip of the grip area and then fit within the space. I’ve actually not yet custom ordered a 3D part at this point. That’s a whole other thing to dive into!
Strange bird indeed! Looks like a cousin of a Sakura Archi. Pen or pencil?
No great deals here, I got them for more or less the current market rate. The SH-1500LP is by a very wide margin the most expensive pencil I ever bought. It came without a clip, but thanks to this thread I was able to source a cheap eraser holder with the right clip. The Uchida set (with various drawing accessories) indeed cost about half the price of the Tombow alone.
