I’m back and forth on that one. There’sa gray transparent and maybe even a green. But the yellow isn’t readily available at least online that I can find. I don’t know how I feel about the tip just yet.
It’s like $4 on Aliexpress
Well damn
The Uni in your 0.9 tray had me scratching my head for a minute before I read you post
I’m not going to lie. I’ve been reading alot of posts about the Uni pencils and I like reading what you have to say. You’re more colorful in your descriptions and I appreciate both sides of the coin. I’m not (yet?) die hard enough to commit to 0.5 much less your 0.3 or 0.4 but I am very intrigued by the double knock pencils. I’ve been scouring every source I know to find a decent priced (below 40-50) Pilot Automac or if I’m lucky a Uchida Drawing Sharp in 0.5. But you’ve got me convinced anything less than a Hi-Uni in Mitsubishi isn’t worth my time. Though I’m sure that isn’t how you feel, I just want to dream I guess. (But not for a drunken $500 bill)
lol, maybe I went too far in my description of how influential alcohol was in my purchase of the 3051 …
I’m a pretty chill person, and having a buzz, I low-balled with a snipe bid I never thought would win. It already had 20ish bids with 3 days to go and my snipe was $10 more than its current bid (there’s NO WAY everyone is done bidding, right?!?)
Wrong.
So, I finally ended up with the MP I’ve always wanted due to a miscalculation in auction dynamics. Fortunately I had the money to spare.
My only regret is not having something to idolize and strive for as hard as I ever have with the 3051FF.
My next goals:
-Tombow Variable 0.3 and 0.4.
-Pentel Injecto 0.4 (grey/black) version
-Rotring 700
-Rotring metal Doubl-knock (red/graphite/both)
-a first gen Pentel mechanica nose with 4mm pipe still attached. Mine has the pipe missing. Though it is still a delight to use, I know I could be better.
-Tombow LG 0.4
If you want to explore Uni more. I suggest the Mx-1052 line up. Along with the (not as prevalent) M5-1006.
These are some of the best pencils anyone is lucky to own. They are also easily found in great condition ~50$ or less on Buyee.
Hi-Uni is just a nametag. The hype is not worth limiting yourself from the plethora of Mitsubishi’s YEARS of badass pencils.
This is the Hi-Pitch M5-50 0.5mm. Faber Castel also has a version (many in fact for each lead hardness. The TK-9555 (I’ve purchased 2 of these for $30 each on eBay.
My goal here is to never dissuade anyone from ANY purchase they may feel inclined to explore. ANY type of mechanical pencil could be my next favorite.
Hopefully I’ve displayed my love for all. None should be dismissed…. Unless they are 0.7 or 0.9mm ).
Jk… I’m even finding myself curious more and more about certain 2.0mm… who knew?
I have no doubt of your chill level.
I am trying to find a non drafting type of pencil. I actually did find a Pilot Automac for $38 before fees so I’m pretty excited about the auto feed, maybe I won’t break the lead as much.
In real life, I’m not sure I’d choose one of those pencils over my p209.
Currently that’s my gauge, will I actually use it.
Ohhhhhh, well in that regard. You and I are on completely different MP PATHS HAHA. Drafting pencils are my bread and butter. I only own one pentel p315(I think) because it’s the “for film” version. (That closely resembles a p20x)
I need to pick one of the up. Unfortunately my 2.0mm desire/creep has infected me. Ever since my Tombow and Uchidas came in, a new empty space has opened up in my “need zone” apartment in my stupid brain.
my 2.0 mm desire/creep has infected me
I hadn’t really paid much attention to 2.0 mm lead sizes until I’d got wind of the rOtring 800 available in that size and had already been discontinued. I managed to track down one before the more massive price spike. In hindsight, I wish I’d bought a few more! I’ve long had a strong appreciation for architecture, and Frank Lloyd Wright is one of my heroes. ACME made a few pens and pencils in FLW motifs, one of them being a 2 mm holder. That was my 2nd pickup. It grew a little bit from there. I highly recommend the Staedtler 925-35 in 2 mm. It’s ratcheted (not gravity fed).
The Frank Lloyd holder is superb looking!
Beautiful higher tier Clutch Points! And lovely Pel black plus the etched Pilot Cap!
My capped pilot collection is now almost complete. I was really not interested in the blue and red variations but I finally got them both.
It’s not on my desk right now, but will be…
It’s called CYPINKLE a fantasy-word from Cyan, Pink, and Purple combined. This is my first… “playful” pen. Pretty much all of my pens are modest, minimalist, futuristic, or business-flair. The first playful looking pen that really struck a chord with me was one of Spoke Design’s earliest prototypes for the Roady, called the Gecko. Sadly, it never went beyond a very limited production on the early Roady 1.
And while this CYPINKLE leverages a much more “youthful” looking colorway combo, the hot pink in particular, I’ve not seen anything like this from Spoke Design in a long while… and these tend to go fast, so I figured why not. If I did have my way, I’d rather the pink be more like an orange-gold like color as on the Gecko. Maybe… CYORPLE?
Well, that calls for a better photographic showcase then. Here’s a montage:
The front end is very solid, making it a little forward heavy. It’s a drop-clutch design. The etching is nicely done and provides some grip. My only gripe with this pencil is the clip. It’s rather thin and not very sturdy. They could’ve done better on it!
Oh, and that other pencil is actually a 1+1. BP+MP combo. Also made by ACME.
I love the ACME FLW holder; the only flaw I see, from my perspective, is the presence of a non-removable clip (which I imagine could still be pried away with some care).
Apart from that, absolute design masterpiece, with amazing colour combination.
I found this pencil first on buyee (the guy wanted like $55 but it had no model name and it sounded interesting)
I then searched google for Japan made Shaeffer and it was not easy but I ended up tracking down what this was but I still can’t pin point when it was made other than somewhere from 1948 through the 50s.
It is a Shaeffer Ultra Fineline and it came in both 0.5 and 0.3. It was made with a Japanese designed mechanism.
I bought both sizes basically brand new in the box with papers and extra everything that they came with for just over $45, but there are others aiming alot higher.
This pencil surprised me. I’m not versed in automatic pencils and the upper echelon of designs but this pencil delivered something that I can’t find anyone talking about.
It acted like an automatic pencil. It behaved like a double knock (which is what initially caught my eye because it reminded me of the H1005)
The picture with the tip extended is how I was writing with it all day. Exactly like that, at any angle, the pencil continued to write as if there were a ghost lead on the tip. I was using 2B lead and I never broke it once. I discovered that basically, if I break the lead then I probably broke the pencil.
It is not an automatic pencil. There is a “rod” in the main body that pushes against the lead in the lower part of the pencil. The rod is housed within a spare lead case that does not auto feed.
The bottom half carries the “floating lead protector” which pulls out through the tip and holds the single piece of lead that you load yourself.
You click the pencil as you would any other to retract the lead protector and you start to write. You write and write and write and progressively the protector moves back into the pencil, so you click again and keep it moving.
The center of the pencil has a clear window that shows when the lead is almost out and in need of you to put a new piece in. You know this because the push rod has a red indicator that has worked itself down to the window by that point.
It’s so simple, it kind of blew my mind to be honest. I’d like to hear if anyone has this pencil or has seen it before.
