Thank you, Vasco! ![]()
Good morning[1] everyone! This week, I have the Craighill Kepler Pen in vapor black. Craighill is a bit of an eccentric company that tends to sell overpriced shiney (normally metal) bobbles. They also have a tendency to think they are reinventing the wheel or making fixes to problems that no one had (Exhibit A, B, and C). Unfortunately, I am a sucker for shiney bobbles that are normally made of metal and also pens. There is a shop in town that sells Craighill products and other trinkets by companies with, shall we say, similar practices. It is a fun shop though to browse though!
or good afternoon, good evening, and good night (whichever is applicable) ↩︎
All that drama over bad clip designs and they’ve never even tried a Tombow AirPress or recent Uniball One? lololol
I know, right!?! ![]()
I’d forgotten the brand name but I left a comment on one of their video shorts about how Tombow beat their overwrought design thinking back in 2008.
Not to mention that clothes pins have been doing it for a lot longer…

A very nice clear collection!
Clearly
They’re prepared for any writing situation today!
….unless a marker is needed

The perfect clip. Right under our noses the whole time! ![]()
You are right. That is actually closer to the design of the clothespin as it is two pieces (pen body and clip) with the spring in the hinge. But the Tombow AirPress or Uniball One is just the pen body and the spring. I agree with you, @cytherian, that the GraphGear 1000’s clip is a bit bulky but the fidget factor appears that it would be decent.
So how come Craighill never actually made a pen with this revolutionary clip that they totally, definitely, for sure
invented? The only pen that I can find that they ever sold is the Kepler pen which has no clip at all. To to make a big deal about it with that pomp and circumstance video and dramatically say “eureka” to then never actually manufacture it. The video almost feels like an April Fool’s joke which ends up making it so much more unironically funny.
They are kind of a joke in general. Highly recommend checking out their website and browsing their entire line of plausible products. Here is an ‘‘iconic’’ ‘‘architecturally inspired’’ bowl with fins that they sell for USD 248
As someone who has worked in design and branding for 20+ years, I’ve come to appreciate the value of a good story to help people connect to a product or brand. But there are too many businesses that use fluff and buzzwords as window dressing to hide a lack of substance… coz authenticity takes real effort and costs more than most are willing to spend.
They’re technically in my drawer when not in use but I enjoy my new 600s a lot. Eagerly waiting for the Midnight blue model to arrive. They look sick when placed next to each other with the Ice Mint one
