What TV program(s) are you watching?

I was let down by season two. Don’t let that stop you though - season 3 & 4 are great.

no Rick and Morty!?

I’m really bummed that Outer Range is not getting renewed for a 3rd season. I mean, the 2nd season actually got more interesting. I think this series had a lot of potential and could’ve at least gone for 4 seasons.

Love rick and Morty, just didn’t list it because I didn’t want the list to be too long. which is why i put “et cetera” at the end of my list

So… what would be nice sci-fi series?

(on hbo/max — that’s the one I have right now, cancelled the others…

I’m not really into comedy or mixed-funny or that new trendy-smart type of series that mixes gangsters, an half-assed Columbo detective and tries to “de-construct” the American family at the same time, while the characters are on holidays in some dense wooded lake resort (can’t remember the name of that one!)

I like serioz shit!)

Fringe is always fun to watch. It kinda falls apart in the last season, but still a great show.
if you have not seen The Last of Us you should check it out. Very well done, except you will have to wait until 2025 for season 2.

That one looks promising, thanks Patrick! I’ll check it out tonight. :+1:

Not sure I can get past Peter Bishop after his role in The Affair… one thing about TV/Film actors, unlike theater, is that they are cast by their mugs and general acting, they hardly ever “change” or “morph” into another person unlike them. That’s why Gyllenhall or Phoenix are creepy guys!

This was my favorite series for a number of years. I had very high hopes for the ending… and meh, I was a bit disappointed. JJ Abrams kept it alive, but against high resistance, which caused funding problems for the 5th and final season. It was getting sketchy by the 4th season.

Anyway, there’s so much to appreciate. The acting is terrific. John Noble makes it! Dr. Walter Bishop. Hilarious. Anna Torv is excellent too. Peter Jackson was pretty good.

I’d say it’s like X-Files but with more latitude and character development.

Has anyone here seen Fallout? It’s 1 season thus far, but wow. What a bizarre yet intriguing production.

Scavengers Reign and old Doctor Who are the best sci-fi series on max in my opinion.

Finishing The Staircase on Max. Top acting, perfect set, great story-telling or re-telling. Some dialogues almost fall in cliché (like irl, right?) but then they avoid it. It’s the most brilliant crime series I’ve seen in a while — and all that without a single shot fired

The Staircase” is loaded with subtleties. And I found myself going back and forth on believing that the husband had done it. Motive is usually a complex thing and so difficult to fully uncover.

I thought the “owl theory” was never completely dismissed — they only put it aside because afaik in the US judicial system a previous occurrence serves as jurisprudence: if another case shows that it is possible to cause blunt force trauma without cracking the skull (the gay escort murder case) you later can’t use that as proof that it was without doubt an owl that did the attack — since that peculiarity is not a particular circumstance of owls attacks any more, even though most blunt force attacks by humans do result in a cracked skull.

But they zoomed in on the hairs and the feathers were there…

Truth is one thing — justice is another. Everything is a lie (a recurrent theme in modern time series and movies on netfliex, hbo, etc). But it is all so brilliantly put together, it’s really worth the 8-hours viewing ahah.

Mare of Easttown

Black Doves

British spy thriller series set in the London area. This just came out on Netflix, dropped on Dec 5th. Keira Knightley is the top star in it. Ben Whishaw is also in it, a great actor as well. Only 6 episodes… but they’re all quite intense. Excellent writing, acting, and action. A bit gratuitous on the violence. I’m definitely going to catch the 2nd season, if it gets a green light.

Monsieur Spade

This is a neo-noir television miniseries created by Scott Frank and Tom Fontana, and starring Clive Owen as Dashiell Hammett’s fictional private detective Sam Spade. Originally released by AMC in January 2024, it’s now available on Netflix.

The year is 1963, and the legendary Detective Sam Spade is enjoying his retirement in the South of France. By contrast to his days as a private eye in San Francisco, Spade’s life in Bozouls is peaceful and quiet. But the rumored return of his old adversary will change everything. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered at the local convent. As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established. Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers

It’s a rather slow moving series. And it’s complex. We’re introduced to a lot of characters and their backstories take some time to be revealed. Some surprises and twist-turns. The cinematography is gorgeous. This is a real town in France. Period cars, costumes and props are all very accurate. I think Clive Owen does a good job as Sam Spade. But not uniquely so. I think other actors could’ve pulled it off, maybe even better. But Owens does have this understated bluntness in his mannerisms that feels the part. It’s only 6 episodes and while there’s some room for a possible 2nd season, I think it’s highly unlikely. Still, it’s a good art-film production.

Have just quickly scanned this thread and I didnt see any mention of Yellowstone or Andor.

If you’re avoiding Andor because you don’t like Star Wars, you should watch it anyway. It’s made by Tony Gilroy who is responsible for the Bourne films. He also did Rogue One, which is often talked about as the 3rd best SW film (behind Ep IV and V). It’s not in-your-face SW as much as it is a spy show that happens to be set in the SW galaxy. It is a slow burn though, so be patient, it’s worth it.

Another slow burn is Better Call Saul. Added bonus, it’s finished so you can binge the whole thing.

I’d also add my vote for Fallout and The Last Of Us.

Dune: Prophecy

A very slow paced prequel that adds little to the two movies but it’s nice to watch because of all the little details and the retro-futuristic tone of the franchise.

I’m not sure about Travis Fimmel playing Desmond Hart, though. He seems to be playing Ragnar Lothbrok again. I’m pretty sure he even said a couple of lines with that funny “norwegian accent” they were using on Vikings.

I’m watching Me TV’s “Collector’s Call” right now. Lisa Whelchel visits people’s collections (jukeboxes, Barbie dolls, Star Wars collectibles, toys, pinball machines, etc.) accompanied by an appraiser. They show several pieces from the collection that are given a value by the appraiser. At the end of the episode, the appraiser gives an estimate for the whole collection and then attempts to make a trade with the collector. (Some people comment that the appraisals aren’t always very good, especially for the whole collection.)

So, is there a mechanical pencil collector here who could be on that show with their collection? Who would be the appraiser?
