I like it, it’s a shame you didn’t have a spare clip from a junk pencil already though.
With the obnoxiously stupid tariff war going on, I wasn’t even looking at AliExpress any longer… expecting all sorts of painful price increases. These clips look pretty decent. Do they sell them in various quantity bundles for reasonable prices?
Yes, the same clips are available from several sellers. Aliexpress’ search being what it is, “metal pencil clip” yields a lot of unrelated results so I didn’t explore the whole list. I ordered 60 (which seems to be the standard amount) for about 8€, you might find a better offer if you have the patience to browse dozens of pages. The clips aren’t very strong but they seem adequate for their intended use.
I have an obscene amount of “junk” p200 pencils
How many clips would you want
I have to have at least 70

I have just discovered the existence of this:
How does this “Inner Point” relate to the Hi-mecha double knocks? There’s another one here with a picture disassembled and the internals look very similar to the H-2005/3005.
It’s a design that reminds me a bit of the “CLUTCH POINT” model. They’re not particularly rare and that price is way off base.
Here’s a usual overpriced one on eBay from SMP:
Its existence is because Pilot decided to equip ‘general use pencil’ with double knock mechanism. You can find it in 95 catalog, it was released approximately at the end of 1994.
And besides, two Clutch Point model, 5k and 3k yen, with a similar but more luxurious design style to Inner Point, were indeed released around this time. But it couldn’t be found in 95 catalog (which usually released at the begining of the year), so looks like it was a little delayed. And of course, it appears in the 1997 catalog.
That’s probably old news for most but while I was browsing one of the Pilot catalogues I found this picture of a completely disassembled H-2005, which I hadn’t seen before.
Thanks for noting this! I had seen it, but had forgotten about it. It’s a shame the image is of such a small dimension. I hope one day that @Linus2K could take some higher resolution scans of these catalogs at some point.
I adjusted contrast and sharpened a bit, to help:
I wonder if PILOT uses any glue in the grip assembly. I’ve found it very difficult to get very far in disassembly… as I don’t want to apply enough pressure to possibly break the plastic barrel.
I’ve seen a photo on twitter where someone got the metal grip out of the inner plastic part, but I never got that far. I think some glue is indeed used. Otherwise the metal part would spin freely over the plastic inner part
There’s something that’s been bugging me: when you disassemble a Pilot Automac, there is a thread at the rear of the lead tube, in a part that’s used for the double knock mechanism.
For a while I couldn’t find where it was supposed to go and it drove me crazy thinking I didn’t reassemble it right. Now I’m convinced that it isn’t used in the assembled Automac, but that leaves the question open: what is it for? Is the same part also used in another model where this thread has a function? Is it only there to help during manufacture?
Funny you posted this because I was just thinking about those threads last night while trying to get my Automac’s auto-feed to work again.
I hadn’t even considered they might have a function in assembly / manufacturing… just assumed it was a reused part from another pen/pencil with vestigial threading.
I’ve wondered that myself for years. Those threads don’t seem to have any functional purpose on the Automac, but I’ve never seen that exact part in anything else. If I had to guess what it was sans context, I’d say it was part of a ballpoint click-pen.
Glad to see that I’m not alone obsessing about this
I have a broken H-1003. When I have time, I will completely disassemble it and upload photos.
Although it’s just a single reply on the Technomatic disassembly topic, sometimes simply putting the mechanism into alcohol and shaking it is enough to remove the graphite inside and restore normal operation.
I have all the Hi-Mecha-Holders, Automatic 0.5 and 0.3, as well as Automac E and E500. Unfortunately, they are not compatible with each other ㅠㅠㅠ. Even among the Hi-Mecha-Holders themselves, some do not fit together.
Yeah, there are sometimes production variances. Tolerances change or perhaps molds get remade between productions across the years and then… no longer compatible. Or, simply by aging. There can be some contraction of plastic parts, making the threading slightly different.
