Very nice Spoke Design Spoke 4 colorway... black/silver

The Roady XL is looking mighty fine too!

The way you balance them on the peak of the corrugation creates so much depth. It’s just a picture of pencils but, call me crazy, it invokes familiarity. Whether I like those specific models or not I can maybe be tricked into maybe, at least, taking a second look. Sorcery.

You got three of the prettiest Spokes, especially the pencil, and the Roadys are also gorgeous. Of course, they’re all sold out.

edit: oh stock photo from Spoke Design, ok

Still not a Spoke convert but I do appreciate the clip design not being another ‘two bolts on a stiff piece of metal’ approach

Where did you get the corrugated backdrop? Looks like something I might want to investigate for The Pencil Files™ :face_with_monocle:

Is that the underside of a tray? The shadows make it appear like they’re perched on the peaks but those are valleys.

It’s actually a stock photo I took from the Spoke Design Instagram account. You could reach out to Brian or Brad and they should be able to fill you in on what they used.

EDIT: Done

Good eye there, Heath. Yeah, it looks like they’re perched on those slot rails, rather than nestled in the slots. Either they used a poster-tac of some kind to keep them positioned, or… maybe magnets from the other side.

I think we’re saying the same thing but this shows it better.

To me it looks like a pen display tray like the ones each brand sold for counter top store displays. Somehow they just balanced them on top which I guess may not be difficult. I don’t know.
Here’s one on eBay like I’m talking about.

….I just noticed that @Heath already made the observation, I’m late to the party I guess.

Hmm, I still think it’s an optical illusion. They aren’t being balanced on top of the ridges/peaks in between the pen tray slots but rather the pen tray is flipped over and they’re sitting in between the slots now but appear to be perched. I don’t have a tray but like this

Whoever has one of those trays needs to flip it over and try. @Pdunc67

I think that is what we are looking at. Here is mine but my backside is shiny.

I took a moment to write to Brian and he responded. Some good answers, too.

Our setup is super budget but gets the job done. The grey matt is a silicone dish drying matt and we use a simple LED lightbox… both from Amazon. We have so many models that come and go… we can’t afford to do it any other way

So yes, you’re right – optical illusion. Pretty cool. Alas, the dish matt doesn’t look to be a practical storage solution… but works nicely for photography.

Ha! Even now knowing, I still look and it takes my brain a few to “see” it proper.

Honestly, I think it’s awesome that you did see it initially. All along I just kept to myself that, though I understand what you’re saying, you’re wrong.
Look at that. I can’t even see it now that I see it. Even in some of the photos that come from @drifand and how he talks about a simple phone camera and good lighting.
Thank you for contacting them and getting the behind the scenes photo.

Even though I now know what it is, I still can’t force myself to see it in that photo. I’m so conditioned to process shading a certain way… I can’t override it. Maybe it’s something like that famous white/gold vs. blue/black dress illusion.

Once you see it you can’t unsee it.

I couldn’t see it until I cheated!

Yeah, I had to cheat too. I was so consumed with trying to see what the stone arrangement was depicting, I just completely overlooked the blank spaces in between!

(increased contrast helps you see it, plus squinting)
