"Toxic" Pencils (It’s not what you think)

Is it primarily sun exposure that does this, or are other things that can cause the discoloration… like very bright halogen lamps and close proximity to room heaters?

All of that. And perhaps the prevalent smoking culture in Japan back in the 70s thru 90s. A good friend who also collects vintage Japanese toys learned the hard way that nicotine residue can harm plastics.

925 25 silver meister edition. Always wondered why I absolutely never saw postings for that at all. And wondering how much it would go for now.

+1 Totally agree! The Protex mechanism is significantly more complex and sophisticated - it even has a knock button that pops out from the end compared to the Grandee Priere where you knock using the entire upper half of the pencil.

Ahh I see! I didn’t know swapping those was a thing. You should still be able to tell by the inscriptions on the silver ring which is attached to the shaft and can’t be removed.

I have the Silver Meister Edition and honestly it is not in the same league as the other pencils in your list. It’s very rare for sure, but really is a fairly standard mechanical pencil. Unless you want to complete the entire 925 set, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it. There, I saved you some time and money :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Agreed. It’s really just because it’s the first Meister and yes, I want to complete the collection one day.

There’s actually one on eBay right now for a ridiculous amount.

Is the H-1085 in this family? Is this a good price?

Link please?

I am still missing maybe around 9 editions to get to this stage.

I think the only way that is going to end up in my collection is if I take a picture of it and print it out

Which ones?

I had one of these years ago, and sold it on eBay. I wasn’t that impressed. Mechanically very sound. But it’s a very light pencil. It felt like a letdown compared to the H-1585.

H-1085 is a pretty decent family. I actually like the plastic lattice grip over rubber, and it doesn’t become unsightly with use compared with metal knurling. The set includes 0.4, which goes for crazy amounts today.

The all plastic lower tier H-585 series is also a keeper in my collection.

If I’m not wrong the For Film variant in off white shares the same DNA.

Evangelion(can’t afford it), the silver edition linked above(out of the question forever). The hunter green, wine red, SK limited dark silver, 2023 SK limited purple, SK limited lime soda, China limited purple, forest green, gold, gold black. So I guess actually 11 not 9.

This seller from aliexpress has several colors www.aliexpress.com/store/402040/search?SearchText=staedtler+925. Perhaps, it might help you to complete some of the colors.

I recommend not doing this, if customs ask for proof of value of the items you will have a hard time dealing with them.

I am going through the exact same thing, I bought some pencils and seller wrote it off as a gift. Customs have held the item until I show them the proof of value of the items. I am afraid of the legal action, I hope they take their duty and taxes and penalty, if any and release it…

Here in such case there is no penalty or similar: a false declaration is the “fault” of the sender, and since the customs declaration (CN22/CN23) is no official document, also the sender did not commit a forgery. But of course the problem remains, that you have to proof the value, either with comparable items or (much preferred) with proof of a payment.
