The stubbies (pens and pencils)

LAMY Scribble BP (all black), Scribble MP 0.7mm, Scribble holder 3.15mm, Staedtler Initium Lignum Plum Wood MP + BP, Spoke Design Roady, ZERO ZE013 BP, Mitsubishi mini MP 0.5 mm silver + black (really tiny, 10.5 cm!)

By “stubby” my threshold is less than 13cm in length. I know that PILOT has the Birdie and also Sailor has a mini as well, but they’re rather boring and very thin. I do have the Sailor lying around somewhere but I couldn’t find it.

I love a nice smaller pen sometimes. I believe that this is what I have that fits under your stubby™ sizing standards. From left to right: Pichi Design Nano TiPen; Fisher Bullet Space Pen in brushed chrome; Fisher Bullet Space Pen in raw brass; Olight OPen Mini in brass; Fisher Space Telescoping Pen, Spiderco BaliYo butterfly pen; Uniball One P gel pen; Tombow AirPress ballpoint; Uniball Zento Signature Edition in stone brass; a Parker Jotter with a perpetual calendar; a Parker Jotter with custom engraving; and finally a Parker Jotter 70th Anniversary Edition. I was not expecting that the Jotters fit!

Now @cytherian, does stubby™ include micro and mini pens and pencils or is it its own distinct size? Say stubby™ is larger than mini, which is larger than micro. Thank you for sharing this part of your collection.

Edit: I forgot this generic mini titanium bolt action pen (center):

Thanks for sharing your small pen collection, Ethan. Curious assortment!

Pichi Design Nano TiPen – nicely machined little pen. Curious about that refill. Is it proprietary? Can you buy any refill with plastic tube that fits and simply cut to size, mated to the screw end? Or is it completely priorietary?

Spiderco BaliYo butterfly – I’ve never seen that one before. So they made it like a butterfly pocket-knife, where the closed handles serve to protect the pen. The basic model is quite inexpensive at $16 USD, with a heavy-weight model rather expensive at $55 USD.

The Zento Signature in stone brass looks interesting! Where did you buy yours? Prices are all over the place for the Signature models. But it looks like eBay USA is the cheapest place for the first colorways, a little less than $50 USD. The stone brass appears quite a bit higher.

A curious collection indeed! I like cool and unique pens.

The Pichi Nano TiPen is very nicely machined. It is quite small at about 106mm when expanded and quite narrow. This does make it difficult to write with but the small size with the intricate machining gives it a unique design that I appreciate. The refill is definitely not a standard refill at 52mm in length and 3mm in diameter. I have not found anything like this online other than Pichi’s website but I believe that you could trim a Japan Style refill to the correct length. I do have a refill pack but I cannot find it. But it appears that the screw end depicted on their website may not be necessary for this pen.

The BaliYo is a gimmicky one. Writing with it is a bit awkward but it is fun! I can do some simple twirling. I have the lightweight version but the wing version might be a bit of a nicer design as the wider handles should make manipulating the pen in the still of a balisong/butterfly knife. Though I do love a Fisher Space Pen refill, I do not believe that the “USA-made heavy duty” version is worth it. This is simply more expensive for the same of being made in the US. It is still made of plastic and I would expect it to be metal for that price.

I wanted a Zento Signature for a while and saw that Uniball was going to release this Stone Brass version in this post. It was a limited release in Japan only I think. @young is correct that purchasing by proxy is you best bet. You could maybe make a post on the Marketplace Category to see if someone would be willing to hook you up or has one that they are looking to part with. The Zento Signature line has an unfortunate history of scarcity which has fostered frequent out of stock and online scalpers. I probably paid too much for it on an eBay resell in March but I like the pen regardless and I am glad to have one. The cap is held on with a magnet which has a very tactile ‘snap’ to it. The “stone” has a slightly rough/not smooth texture to it and I love how it contrasts with the other colors on the body. And it writes wonderfully!
