Interesting detail on page 039: They title “Faber-Castell Diplomat Sportec”. Of course Diplomat is an independent company (https://www.diplomat-pen.com/en/), but maybe they are correct, that FC produced the Sportecs?
Can someone tell me how to change the batteries in a Windom?
I feel like someone posted a pamphlet for one that indicated how to go about it.
I thought the same, but can’t seemto find it.
I don’t own a Windom, but I’d bet anything that the batteries are changed by separating the pencil into 2 halves. When you open it up for changing the lead, what do you see in the upper half? There might be a screw inset that you rotate to get access to the batteries.
Take advantage of this, P!

If unscrewing the rear piece reveals a hidden eraser and there’s no other indication of an access point inside to reach the batteries, then there has to be another method to get to the batteries.
I suggest using a powerful magnifier and looking very closely at the LCD clock surround. There’s a groove there, that appears to travel all around the LCD in a rounded corner rectangular shape. See if there’s any variation in that line… like maybe a slot. Because I’m thinking it’s possible that this little LCD clock might be press-fit into the body. Perhaps with a thin enough screw driver, you might be able to pry out the clock and then get access to the batteries.
What is the display supposed to…display?
Edit: nvm. I scrolled down haha
re: the Pentel Windom:
- is this Pentel’s only body-knock pencil?
- Did Pentel have any other pencils with clocks?
- Is there a complimentary BP?
Yep this is their only body knock. There is a pen version as well. No other pieces by Pentel with a clock that I am aware of.
Thanks, Thomas!
Has anyone seen these in any catalogs or promotional materials?
I’ve looked through the catalogs posted here (I looked in 80s-90s) and didn’t see anything on it.
