When I first saw RPDs post and later, Gunther’s blog, I knew I wanted to make one. Turns out it is easier than I thought. Thanks to @Gunther for the pictures.
Here’s a sneak peek at it. I’ll be making it public in a day or two.

Very nice
It’s small but the ding you chose for the subscribe button is perfect!
I notice it every time and every time it’s perfect!
Thanks ![]()
Superb work, Patrick! If anyone was going to make a writeup of this procedure, no question in my mind that you’d be the ideal narrator of the process. Going by a few text comments here and there from years ago on Reddit left me a bit uneasy about doing this procedure, even though a writeup had been done that is pretty decent. But now with full video describing the details, I have much more confidence. Thanks for doing this! ![]()
Thank you @cytherian - you made my day.
I may just go on and make it public a few days early after that comment ![]()
well that solves the problem of having to wreck a S10! Are you going to buy them?
If no one gets them by tomorrow I will
I’m not stressed about it, anyone else can grab them if they’re interested.
@cytherian can grab them, takes the pressure off of messing something up
Good catch! I’d not seen these sitting in the Mercari listing lineup. You want to go for it and we split? I do have an open proxy, so I could grab 'em.
EDIT: I didn’t want to leave it up to chance in case someone out there in the bidding swamp decided to aim and fire. When we do our trades later, I’ll send one of these your way.
What Proxy are you using?
ZenMarket
Excellent video, as usual, you just convinced me to try. I’m wondering if someone has tried drilling the insides of the S20 grip in order to put it on the S10. Is it enough to remove the threads or does it require more thinning (which would make it much riskier)? I’m asking because I’m pondering getting an S10 vs the spare grip alone (which is apparently still available so I guess the seller had several for sale).
Thanks for watching!! I have not tried that yet
Darn. I have a ZenMarket proxy open now as well, and they won’t purchase from a paypayfleamarket account. I was hoping you were using Buyee or another that would purchase from there.
Yeah, I don’t know why ZenMarket doesn’t allow PayPalFleaMarket, when they allow Mercari… not much of a difference really. Maybe Mercari authentication for sellers is stronger and ZenMarket prefers that. So I’ve missed a few deals because of that. I just can’t run multiple open proxies and I prefer ZenMarket because of the generous 60 day storage limit (before charges).
I’ll just add that the S20 ”wood” is way more durable than it looks. It’s some kind of epoxy/resin. Using a dremel inside it would probably be fine.
I’m a hobby woodworker and sometimes they will “stabilize” wood by impregnating it with resin under a vacuum, so the wood is essentially plasticized. I imagine they did something similar.
outstanding- thank you!

Thanks for watching- glad you liked it ![]()
Thanks to your video, I am now the proud owner of a S15. I decided to combine the remaining parts to make a… S51 maybe?
In my opinion it’s too much effort for a result that is frankly underwhelming. Aesthetically it’s at best meh (a metal ring in the middle may improve things a bit) and in use, well, it’s a S10 with a wooden grip. No problem here but nothing to write home about either (unless you’re a fan of wooden grips, in which case you probably didn’t convert your S20 in the first place).
If you want to try anyway, the way I did it was by drilling from the rear (wide) end with an 8 mm metal drill bit. When the drill reached around mid-length a crack started to appear so I stopped and fixed it with a drop of superglue. I then thinned the front end with small files, which took a looooong time.
