Beautiful!
will The Pencil Files™ hold your entire collection?

Awesome stuff, the green knurled Newman is cool never seen it before. Also the last one and the same row.

Technically yes, but barely.

I really wanted 2000+ capacity in a 10-drawer unit, but I couldn’t fit any of them in my car (2014 Audi SQ5). So I settled for a 5-drawer unit with a display capacity of 1400–1460 pencils; there’s still like 7" in the back of each drawer that I can use for additional storage.

As things stand now, I should be able to accommodate everything I want to display. However, I did make a minor miscalculation when setting this whole thing up—like a smart contractor, I should have built in an extra 10% as a flex tolerance for things like:

  • Having an awkward number of pieces from a certain brand that don’t fit nicely into a particular row (or that spill over onto another row)
  • Incorporating spaces within drawers to illuminate brand differences

I think I have between 1300 and 1350 pieces I want to display, but fitting everything cleanly into the drawers—even with a storage capacity of 1400—is still very tricky.

The last Newman on the right is a stainless steel piece with poor quality grooves. The piece immediately to the left is aluminum and also exhibits sloppy grooves (where some aluminum spilled out of the channels as they was grooved).

Despite the inferior machining (versus Pilot or Pentel), the pencil as a whole is quite nice. I think it would stand out in just about any group of MPs.

And if I’m not mistaken, the green Newman was also available in pink. Feels like there ought to be a blue, too, if that is indeed the case.

Cool, btw if you ever want to get rid of one of the red Colleen Red rubber grip double knocks I am very interested!

Look closely—those two are different specimens! I’ve only seen one other CJ like the red one on the far right; it was black with bronze silkscreening (note the tip shape).

Beautiful presentation! I like the collection of your Jibs. :joy:

I have been looking for a red one for some time now.

Mine is the only one I’ve ever seen. It was part of a lot of mostly-worthless pencils (9 in total), and I had to bid ¥18,500 to snag it.

Strangely enough, I got my black 1500 w-knock the same way, in a lot.

Always a pleasure to see these Files.

What is this capped item?

Sailor Drawing Sharp 500 on the left, 1000 on the right. Almost identical to Uchida Drawing Sharp F and C respectively.

The 1000 also looks like the Kokuto Pro TZ-PSP51x?
were all these made by another OEM?

As @drifand suggested, that’s a Sailor On-Time 5. It also came in white.

It seems almost everybody had their own version of this pencil

Do these predate the Pentel Smash? I’m asking because of the button.

I think they do, but I honestly don’t know for sure.

I wish I knew that as well. Since the Smash came out in 1986, it would be interesting to find out
