Are these ALL Your Kokuyos? I find out hard to believe you don’t possess the TZ-PSP1013 or the TZ-PSP5(3)…

Outside of this, beautiful collection.

Am I mistaken or have you yet to show your F.Castell lineup?

Hard to believe? IMO, Kokuyos are pretty far down the rabbit hole.

Plenty of other pencils come before those in the “pieces I am actually willing to spend ~$200 on” list. Here are a few:

  • Pilot H-200X
  • Pilot H-210X
  • Pilot H-300X
  • Pilot Automatic
  • Pilot H-5005
  • Pilot Sprinter with water droplet tip
  • Pilot Gentleman Young
  • Pilot ProTecs
  • Pentel Mechanica 0.3, 0.5
  • Pentel W-knock
  • Pentel PSD5/PWP15
  • Newman fauxbois woodgrain drafter
  • Newman etched drafter
  • Tombow SH-1500LP
  • Tombow Variable 3, 4, 5
  • rOtring Newton
  • Mitsubishi MX-300
  • Mitsubishi Hi-Uni (any of them)
  • Uchida gold, blue, and green

There are probably quite a few others, but these all came to mind immediately (and that list alone represents a lot of $$).

My F-C collection is a joke. Couple of green TK-matic Ls (neither is perfect), one TK-matic L silver whose cap is missing the brown insert :persevere:, and one dark gray alphamatic.

This is another situation where, when I was willing to spend up to $300 on a pencil, I chose one from the list above and not one of these Faber-Castells.

Hell, I don’t even have a Hi-Uni piece yet for this same reason—there’s always something else cool out there for way less.

Anecdote: I did try really hard to get a Kokuyo double-knock one time. Got in a bidding war with a guy who I presume sat there and chain-smoked the entire time we bid back and forth. I had 1 minute remaining at least 5 times, and by the time we were done, he scored the piece for over 3x the price I thought I was gonna be able to snag it for when the auction ticked down to 1 minute the first go-round.

Nice $200 pick list.
Do you really think the Newman drafter is worth $200? I’ve watched them almost double in price and still haven’t got one yet.

I really want a red one with sticker

I didn’t mean to hit a nerve :/, BUT Kokuyo Mechanical Pencils are BY FAR some of the best ever built. I’d even hazard saying THE BEST

I didn’t mean to insult, was just inquiring.

I WOULD recommend getting you hands on a HI-UNI piece, even just a 2050…. They are WELL worth it.

Doesn’t matter what I think.

They were ¥5500 in 2021. Now they’re ¥15,000+. And I’d expect to pay around ¥18,000 for a nice piece you actually have a chance of scoring.

I picked up a 0.5 with no sticker, but the damn tip is bent. And Newman only used this particular tip on this pencil :confounded:

I know many of you fix these kinds of things, but I’m like a toddler trying to fix shit over here—no small tools or anything to hold the lead sleeve in place, just me rolling the tip along the edge of my desk in hopes it’ll smooth out or something.

One day I’d love to have all these pieces.

The Hi-Uni series is particularly bothersome, though, because they’re just knurled grip pencils. There’s no high mecha anything on these pencils, yet they might be the ultimate example of a high mecha family after the Pilot double-knocks.

Once I have everything else, I’ll have no choice but to focus on these.

And during my buying times (I haven’t been an active buyer since May 2023), the Kokuyo double-knocks never had anything except insane prices. I know I’d love them, though—the dimensions are similar to those of the Drückbleistift, which I now love.

Once you hold a HI-UNI 2050 you’ll know why they are priced as they are.

Do you own a Fuji Corona 205-0.3?

If that’s the double-knock, no. If it’s the silver pencil that was also put out by Colleen Jib and a slew of others, then yeah (it’s got a little plastic ring separating the grip and tip, and this always seems to crack after enough time)

When you get time could you put together a post with the ones you have, and maybe ones you still want? I know nothing about these. I want to learn more about them before I buy anything.

In my opinion, it is the PERFECT M.P…

No bells, no whistles, simply everything. Kokuyo’s version is black, unfortunately I had to settle for a 0.5mm version.

They are twins and wholly remarkable.

I only have the Hi-Uni 0.3-2050. I’m sure someone else here would be more qualified for that task.

I AM comfortable saying that is my absolute favorite pencil I own….

I bought the cap for 40$ to have the complete piece

Edit:the Fuji Corona 205-03 being the closest second

Does that one have the finger knock?

Finger knock??

They both are TRUE double-knocks.

Edit: if you are referring to the Murkrfluff-Doublakifs, NO. There is no button like these.

Edit: OH SHIT!! my bad. personified is correct. Even the most BASIC Hi-Uni (without that function) deserves ownership. It is a PURIST’s perfect pencil.

No, I think only the 3051ff and 5050 have the finger knock functionality.

Thanks.
TBH I’m trying to find the lowest priced finger knock. And I guess they come with caps? Wanted to be sure before I spent $$$ on the wrong on incomplete pencil.

You might find one for under ¥40,000. Better be refreshing Mercari every 5 minutes, tho :flushed:

I’d recommend starting low on the totem pole before investing a fortune. The cap DOES make a difference though…

Tombow LX and LG

Tombow W-knocks and drafters

Tombow Monotech 500 and 1000

Tombow Dimple

Tombow Mono Graph

Tombow executives

Drawer 5: Tombow, Sakura, Sailor, Zebra, Alvin, Muji, Helvetica, Berol, Uchida

Drawer 4: Platinum, Newman, Colleen Jib, Ohto, Kokuyo

Drawers 4 and 5 should be the toughest drawers to organize because they contain many pieces from different manufacturers. I like the job I’ve done here and will be cleaning up little annoyances over the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, drawers 1–3 will be anchored by the largest parts of my collection—Pilot, Pentel, and Mitsubishi, respectively. Looking forward to getting those arranged soon!

I’m having some serous Monotech envy right now! I love the way you have this organized. It must take hours.
