This is pretty neat!
I remember this kind of pen with a built in clock was really popular in the early 80’s.
I find stuff like that interesting. Especially if the electronics still work. I’m tempted to snag this, but I have a lot of stuff in the works right now. I have to maintain self control
My personal impression is that these were used for written exams? So that the student could keep track of the time.
There are mechanical pencils as well with the digital clock built in. AFAIK, at least Pilot, Platinum and Sailor made them.
If you want to go further down the pencils with electronics rabbit hole - my favorite is the Shachihata Tezet Calculator Pencil. There is also a ballpoint pen version. The LCD screen is hidden behind the clip which flips open. They even managed to fit in individual buttons for each digit making it surprisingly usable! And it comes in one of coolest retro design cases.

There is a massive lot on YAJ with some of these. Also a bunch of TK-Matics. https://buyee.jp/item/yahoo/auction/c1098455900
That is gorgeous!
I don’t really like the electronic gadgets… nice thing with pencils is, that they can be stored for 30 years and just work.
Writing with roller balls is not bad (to say the least), but they are always dried out. And watch batteries are always empty…
I have one of these and am about 99% sure it was manufactured by Pilot but white-labeled by Platinum. The barrel material and laser-cut grooves are identical to those found on similar Pilots from the same period (2020ST and Pilot’s own writing watch).
The Kokuyo Mistrals are the story here—holy cow!
Are those ps-100s?
edit: yes
Ended up going for a thousand bucks - that’s quite a haul!
There were some bangers in there!
