This is something I’ve wanted to receive since I started collecting those last century pens, and now it finally comes true. Since the Pilot '77 and '88 catalog are already available, I’d say the '82 one between them is just a perfet reward.
p0~p93,p212~p229,p268~p272, which includes all pen products, Download link And maybe someday I’ll upload the full page scan when I have time.
Two years ago I missed Platinum '85, at that time I had not found the right agent, he checked my bid message too late, the auction end with lower than 4000 yen and I can’t do anything. Now I am still waiting for an official catalog about Platinum Z series, I wonder how many versions there were, and for some of them, whether they are silver plated or sterling silver. Early last year, there was a Pilot '95 auction that ended for 8,000 yen, but I didn’t even know that existed until the next month when I happened to check the history record.
Curious to see they were all ¥3000. Protecs, Black stripe clutch point, and MR style dotted. It’s also really great to see the cut-away of the clutch mechanism, front tip anyway.
YES! That would be fantastic. If it’s not much trouble, a few pencil related pages would be great to start. 31, 34, 35, 38, 39
Also named: the 1000-yen and 2000-yen ‘capped’ MP models.
1000-yen = ‘Young Cap’ / ‘ヤング キャップ’
2000-yen in black with gold accents = ‘Cap Tomo’ / ‘キャップ トモ’ ← I’m speculating that ‘Tomo’ could be ‘共’, an indication for ‘company’ or ‘executive’.
Thank you so much for sharing, really appreciate this.
Nice to see the 0.3 Volex here. I’ve been using it so much lately, I can’t put it down…
Also, does anyone know how to decifer Pilot date coding with MPs?
Yeah. And the ‘name’ is Junior Super / ジュニアスーパー.
Maybe that’s why the export version of the H-325 / HO-30RP with sliding sleeve was packaged as ‘Super Pro’.
Of course they are the same pencil. In this image from the 1988 catalog you can see the pencils labeled H22x under the name HP-30R. Additionally, the second pencil is labeled HP3.
I ordered the checkered pattern capped one from a mercari seller recently, got scammed and they sent a pilot switch instead! That was my first mercari-buyee bad experience. Then it reappeared on another seller’s profile, this time I verified the weight and the condition through buyee. And checked the photos after it came at the warehouse. Its on the way to me finally!
How do you get that kind of detailed information from Buyee, including item weight & condition, as well as warehouse photos? I’ve never seen a proxy service provide that. Certainly none of that from ZenMarket.
You chat with the buyee staff via the app.
You explain to them the concerns about anything you wish to buy and then send them a list of questions to ask any seller. After that they translate and ask the seller through mercari.
Once there is a reply they will notify you and then you can buy it or leave it. The questions were sent to the seller a day after I shared them with the buyee staff. In that time if the item is sold out then you are pretty much helpless. Once the item is in the warehouse you can pay 1gbp to get photo confirmation of the item. They usually send 4-5 photos. Again this is accessible through the app.
If you are getting an expensive item, I would recommend to choose the “standard plan” which is insured against serious damage or fake replacement in which case you can claim a refund.
Oh, some information can still be found. This archived website in 2007 shows that the 10k model is silver-plated (The description is exactly the same as the one for 8k model in 98 catalog). It was the only remaining product from that year (mp&bp), the 5k and 8k model were already nowhere to be seen. But the information of the 15k model still remains unknown.
Another question is when the 10k model was actually released. I mean, it’s not in the 1998 catalog.
Interesting. This is archived from the Platinum Japan website?
I sure would love to see a whole treatise done on the Platinum Z. @Knockologist posted about one example, even with video demonstration of retraction/extension, on his blog Sideknocks. It was the gray version with gold accents.
AFAIK, there’s silver, black, blue-gray, brown (bronze) in smooth finishes with either gold or chrome accents. Then I believe there’s a brushed steel version, followed by a lined or fluted silver plated version. The fluted silver, I believe, came with a variety of subtle accents to include blue, red, and black.
