Nice Lead Containers?

Obviously we all have some very nice mechanical pencils here, but I’ve always found it a bit sad that I only have these plasticity disposable lead containers. Currently I’m using a metal toothpick container, but its not a perfect solution. Does anyone know of any dedicated lead containers? (preferably metal ones… I’m a fiend for metal)

I suppose I can start… I know of the YStudio lead containers, as well as the Uni metal lead containers…

I was about to mention the yStudio holder. I have a bunch of them and think they’re really nice to have around.

Awesome! cool to know they hold their ground. I have yet to buy any other alternatives, would you say you like them the most of any lead solution?

There’s not many interesting lead cases out there. YStudio is about it. I have them just for aesthetics. The regular plastic cases are much more feasible and easier to use.

I occasionally see vintage metal lead containers at car boot sales and on auction sites, usually as part of a bulk lot of old pens, pencils, leads, etc. Many are not really all that suitable for modern lead lengths and sizes, but maybe worth a look. The YStudio is a modern version of some vintage ones.

Some vintage metals that you could use with modern leads.

A Japanese seller, Evecraft on YAJ, has sold some really nice wooden lead containers periodically.

Hmmmm, yes, a custom made case that fits over a standard brand plastic case. Business opportunity? :star_struck: :star_struck:

I’m probably in the minority in thinking the best lead container is the pencil itself. If I load a pencil with 5-6 leads and put it into rotation, I will probably not run out until many years later due to my usage pattern.

The luddite gradient colour ones are quite nice.

From the Pentel “baseball bat” series there is a lead container (CBS1).

These are very pretty. They do look very long compared to standard sized leads, though, granted that’s not too much of an issue. I’ll have to add these to my list!

The lead containers can hold more than double what you can cram inside your average mechanical pencil lead reservoir tube. And, the case is much shorter of course. Although one thing is missing from all of these containers–a hardness indicator. That would be cool to see.

As well as hardness we also need a lead diameter indicator on the case.

That’s what the world is missing! Wonder if a message to the wonderful Dr. Wilson could get us some lead size indicating lead containers…

Side note: what ever happened to the Knockology x IJ Instruments Collab?

Wait. What. There’s a collab with IJ instruments?!

There was mention of it at one point… A couple of months back when I first joined this forum.

Seemed to go behind closed doors after a bit of consideration, to get some design language down. Not sure what ever happened, I don’t think it materialized, If it did I suspect I’d see photos.

That will never happen, just like a yellow R600.
