Just joined up this morning. I shouldn’t have been surprised that there was a forum for mechanical pencils, but I was. I keep being happily surprised by these things. I don’t consider myself a collector, more like a functional accumulator. I’ve been a Pentel fan since high school, using the same P205 through college including geology field camp. I’ve recently discovered the Kerry and it reignited my interest in mechanical pencils.

A P205 that made it through high school, college, and geology field camp has definitely earned its place. And discovering the Kerry is a pretty good way to fall back down the mechanical pencil rabbit hole.
Also, “functional” rather than “collector” is how a lot of us probably started.

Pentel is very popular around these parts. I’m sure you’ll find more models that you’ll like. Be careful though, or you else your “functional” collection may spontaneously multiply.

@Thomas @Severest I’m painfully aware of accumulation → collection creep! It happens with everything else too. At least pencils take up less space than cast iron, guitars, bows, canoes, etc. and are easier to hide from your spouse 
@DarkwingDuck I love the P209! Have a couple of those plus a P339. My first Kerry would have been a 0.9 if that had been an option. Have some P207 too. I never really thought about getting different models, the P20X just worked so well for so long. The only reasons I’d started looking at all, my eldest twins just started high school and we were doing back to school supplies and I saw a green P205. And then my youngest daughter lost the cap off a P207 and I was trying to search for a replacement. Knockology showed up quickly in search results and it’s been downhill since then

As it happens, since my first post this morning my second Kerry arrived. The CDT version. That unique center barrel? So cool!
Now that I have 0.5 & 0.7, I’m good right? I don’t need any more? 
This is the exact definition I needed to shield myself from all who criticise my habits. It sounds perfect, elegant, and fun at once.
And when they will say something like «I see more of a dysfunctional accumulator here…», I can always respond along the lines of «But I have all my pencils classified!»

One warning: once you make your way to the Quicker Clickers…one slippery slope straight to ‘collector’ status

And whatever you do… do not go down the road of pencil extenders!!! Especially blackwing! 
I used one for a bit when I started my first real job, making land surface profiles off 1:24k USGS quads (Digitizing those into AutoCAD was worse). My boss thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. And for the start of freshman year, one of my daughters asked for a mechanical pencil with a real eraser, not the vestigial things in my P20Xs. So I got her some Twist Erase Clickers. So far so good!
