My Venvstas Designer-8 has arrived!

This was my 2024 New Year gift to myself, as mentioned here. It was back ordered and I had to wait a bit but it’s finally here.

Can’t wait to use for a while and report back.

whew! That’s a beauty. Got here quick too.
2.0mm? What is your preferred sharpener?

I’m not picky. I use an Ohto brass sharpener, or just sandpaper sitting on my jeweler’s desk.

Jeweler’s desk? Suleiman would be proud :triumph:

2mm + 3.2mm sharpener – my fave

It does seem to have better machining and finishing!

Could Mr. Thomas explain the reasons that led him to acquire such an object?

“Decided to grab the Venvstas Designer-8 as my New Year treat to myself. I’ve been so heads down and busy lately that I didn’t even get myself a single pencil or pen for Christmas. Figured I’d go with a 2mm since I’ve been sketching and scribbling so much. Figured it would be a nice change from a 0.9mm or the fat 5.6mm sketch pencils.”

Just acquired a used one in vg condition. Never noticed the little serial number on the other side of the VENVSTAS brass plug… mine’s ‘A0188’…

I have tracked down some old comments on X from Japanese owners who said that the early versions of the DESIGNER 7 and 8 were also rough around the edges. Things improved after the company moved from France to Italy. Compared to the LRD D568, I am very pleased with the fit and finish on the VENVSTAS.

Just a couple more comparison pix of the DESIGNER 8 and D568 Grip. The carbon fiber Venvstas actually made me wish the D568 was a little bit longer.

The way the clutch fits flush when closed is a big part of the appeal. Kinda like the ‘Lamy Unic’ or ‘Platinum Z’ of leadholders.

Mr Rossi has a way with lines and curves that express technological aesthetics and style with purpose. IMHO, as much as it might pain him, the Venvstas feels like the ideal level of fit and finish for his unique designs.

I’d worried about the relative fragility of carbon fiber but the Venvstas doesn’t feel like it was going to chip or crack easily anytime soon.

OK, that’s all for now.
