Gary, the problem is the refill. A Euro-narrow necker with a Pilot BRFN body.
I’m happy to sell my spares to anyone who needs one. I should really take stock of my spare inventory…

I want to say I bought the big lot in June or July of 2023. I had been searching DAILY since September 2022 after missing out on a piece that had been on Mercari for a while at a price of like ¥4650. But after whiffing on that piece, I was determined to find one with a sticker in excellent condition. The big lot I bought had 3 pieces with stickers, and one of them functions perfectly.
Which site you use for buying this kind of mech. pencil?
In the span of Mitsubishi Executive double-knock pencils, there’s a lower end model often stickered for ¥700. I don’t recall seeing anyone post about it here. I’d noticed this model for a long while but never bothered to pull the trigger… until recently, when I picked a red one up for about $15 USD (before shipping).
Well… meh. From all I could see, it appeared like the front section is made of some chromed metal. But given how freaking light it is, I’m now thinking it’s either chromed plastic or some cheap aluminum alloy. Crickey. ¥300 more gets you the brushed steel front-end executive double-knock, a far better pencil.
There’s another ¥700 double-knock with a matte silver grip section that looks metallic but feels like a treated polymer of some sort.
Both models fail at that price point but do make cool pieces in any collection
Mitsubishi’s ¥1000+ stainless steel double-knock family is amazing; I would declare it the peak tier of pencildom were it not for the faulty mechanism issues across the set.
It’s curious… I wonder how many ¥700 units Mitsubishi sold of these. Because you pick one up and use it, then pick up a ¥1000 and it’s so much better… worth the difference to step up.
I get the sense they didn’t sell very many, as the ¥700 pieces are pretty rare on secondhand markets compared to everything else from the Mitsubishi lineup.
Got it Even though it’s not on my recent list. Could be the perfect Mitsubishi double knock collection for me.
I’m not a big fan of this series, I like Mx-300, Mx-150 in silver (suppose this is the correct name) and a full skeleton model, M5-59. If I could never get Mx-300, I’ll use one regular knock mp from Tombow as alternative, which has a similar finish design.
I always thought Mx-150 is a better choice than Mx-100, seems that the latter’s high market price is mainly because of his flagship brother. Mx-100 and 101 don’t have a middle ring, which makes them look too simple, and I also don’t like the fat cone of Mx-100. Mx-150 looks more executive to me, with a relatively low market price. And I especially like the orange peel finish design, it matches perfectly with silver body.
M5-1030? Look just like M5-101, maybe there’s exact clue of 101 model number, but I don’t remember.
M5-53, M5-59
Unbelievably good score – that’s like 70% off the market rate! And that’s not counting the fact that you got it in the original box, plus outer box.
Mercari is so frustrating with the way their search criteria works. I’d found that most auctions either left off “MITSUBISHI” in English, or if included, the Kanji version was always included. (Trying to do a conditional search set eliminates auctions I want to see). In your listing you bought, only “MISTUBISHI” (no Kanji). And no double-knock.
I always use original Japanese keywords, like if you search ‘‘シャーボ’’, you’ll get much more results than ‘‘sharbo’’. I think people mostly use ‘‘三菱’’, sometimes ‘‘ユニ’’, and that is enough. Of course, the most useful keyword is always ‘‘シャープペン’’ or ‘‘シャーペン’’, and that’s how I found it, but this is no reference value. I think waiting for one that hiding among others in auction with multiple lots, would be much more realistic than trying to find it appears alone on Mercari at crazy low price .
My complaint with it is that it doesn’t seem to have good understanding of the blank space very well, for example, when I search ‘‘パイロット 2+1’’, I get some results for ‘‘パイロット 2+1’’ and a bunch of results for ‘‘パイロット’’.
Incredible price, holy smokes
I’m not 100% convinced for the M5-1030… the box doesn’t say ‘double knock / ダブルノック’. This could be the slide-pipe model that looks very similar?
It is the double knock type, though there’s no 100% guarantee that it’s the original box. (The black ones do correspond to the ‘‘黒’’ on the side of box)
Managed to get a backup. I love this color. I wonder if the same one was used on some BOXY model… as I recall some having a kind of copper color.
Lovely pencils.
I have some Boxys that are similar in color.
I’ll post a picture when I get home later today
Are these from your collection?
Has anyone seen an M5-100? So far, I’ve only come across the M3-100. I do know that there’s an M5-300… an auction confirmed it, and the price was stratospheric. LINK
I put together a graphic to consolidate information on double-knock model numbers for Mitsubishi (¥700 and above). It should be correct… but if anyone here sees an error, please let me know. Thanks!
In doing some “auction archaeology” I discovered that there were at least 4 auctions on YAJ for the elusive Jaguar II executive double-knock grid-engraved model. One of them featured an original box! But sadly, the delinquent seller neglected to show a photo of the model number imprint on the box. And there was no mention of it in the description. LINK
It seems I’ve missed one… there’s a ¥1500 all brushed steel double-knock executive pencil.
