Just a quick unboxing and first impressions on these releases from Luddite Japan.
POSTDRAW: their version of the side-release double knock mechanism. Very clean, almost minimalist design. I’m leaning more toward the silver version for its MUJI-like aesthetic. The grooved grip feels sure and isn’t cut too deeply or widely to cause irritation.
The tips have minimal wobble and I really like how Luddite is staying the course with its distinctive silhouette for its ‘second generation’ cone design, spearheaded by the TECHDRAW 2. This is also true of the clip design, which is reminiscent of some models from FC and even Tombow’s LZ series.
EVERDRAW: kudos to Luddite for making a non-limited product featuring real wood parts. It was so painful seeing all the crazy second-hand prices for their limited run wooden TECHDRAW (1) series. With EVERDRAW, you just have to be patient and monitor your preferred Japanese e-tailer on Rakuten etc.
The initial offerings included choices for a light-reddish Cherry Wood and a darker brown Walnut. I picked Walnut for the richer color and better contrast with the chromed brass section.
The feel and balance are great and the knock has a very distinct and precise sound — this is not a mushy or quiet clicker. For those who hate rattling parts, the button fits snugly with zero wobble.
The chuck is metal and is a double-screw in design. It is first threaded to mate with the cone, and then a second set of threads attaches securely to the grip. Very much in the league of a Kaweco Special or a Staedtler Hexagonal, except for not have o-rings fitted.
Honestly, I haven’t felt so satisfied with a new MP product since I picked up my first Pilot S20. I encourage everyone to give this a try!
P.S. Luddite has already released an EVERDRAW with black coated metal parts. Very handsome but you know what happens to black metal parts if you use them on a regular basis…
