All about the Kuru Toga Dive

They just have to use the same scheme on the Zento Signature!

Hello. Doesn’t the piece inside the tube consist of two separate pieces, which need to be opened and closed to compress the enamel?

I have made an animated model of the kuru toga dive sleeveless advance system, including the mechanisms of the deceleration member (which i have not found in any guide) that ensure the lead is advanced every 440 strokes (in the simulation 301 because it is what the 2025 patent envisionned) instead of 40.

Consequantly, I have found that disabling the feature can make the pencil advance a full cycle of lead every 40 strokes, potentially making it useful for english.

I will try to publish the video this weekend!

This quote is from 2023 and i am honestly pretty amazed that this pencil more than any others that i see regularly sold stays very consistent in its pricing. You almost never see them below Ā„7000 and it’s consistently between Ā„7000-Ā„8000.
When you do see one that is less it is without a box and because its such an outlier, its difficult to trust that youre even getting something not damaged.

Im not surprised so much because theres something wrong with it even though im not a fan. Im surprised because i would think that the Staedtler Reg reissue would stay more consistent than this but that simply isnt the case. The Reg actually decreases almost every day in price (the limited black also)

Ive been considering making this statement for a while. Just an interesting observation.

This could’ve been my favorite Uni pencil if only it didn’t have the automatic lead-advance mechanism, which makes the writing experience terrible. The auto advancement function isn’t ideal anyways because it never keeps pace with how quickly the lead wears down during normal writing.

It has a cap to protect the tip, a nice weight balance, an appealing design, and the Kuru Toga mechanism… but the writing experience is so frustrating that I would never use it again.

Another example of marketing > user experience.

you could probably cut off the tooth from the progress tracker and make it lose the sleeveless auto mechanism while keeping the spin and sleeved auto functions. Turning the regulator to minimum probably also nullifies the sleeveless auto since the lead projected is really negligible at that setting.

Or… they could just have an option of no auto-advance? The minimum setting still affects writing experience. I mean I can just about tolerate the KT rotation, but add to that the lead pushing outwards. I give up.

Sounds like the Dive just isn’t for you

It truly isn’t. A total red flag wrapped up in an attractive body.

Have you tried the capped Pure Malt?

Nope. I came to the hobby quite late. Well, I mean, I have always loved stationery, but I’ve only gotten back into rabidly buying mechanical pencils in the last few years. I think a breakup triggered my shopping spree, but I am trying to tone things down now.

So far, my favorites are the Tombow Zoom C1 and the Uni KT Metal. From Pilot, I like their fountain pens much more than their pencil offerings. I’m not really keen on anything non-Japanese or discontinued.

The only pencil I’m looking at this year is the KT Metal 0.3, and then I think I’ll be done for a while. Either way, Mitsubishi is taking my money.
