Hello! I’m new to the board and I’m wondering if anyone collects the twist-erase Pentel pencils from the 1980s and 1990s? I’d love to buy some of the different color variations of the QE305/QE405/QE407/QE409/QE505/QE405f/QE407f. Anyone able to help me out? Thanks so much! Best, -Pete
Hey Pete! Welcome to the forum!
What a cool and unique model to collect! Do you have any experience with shopping in Japan via Yahoo! Japan or Mercari?
There are 4 that just popped up on Yahoo Auctions JP.
Or the same ones on Mercari. Cheaper and faster (no domestic shipping and outright purchase).

Was the QE305 and then QE405 Pentel’s first “twist” erase model?
Would it be accurate to say it is the progenitor of the modern QE515?
Yes and yes! The QE305 led to the QE405. The QE405 led to the QE505 (Gomdale 500 in Japan). Then came the QE5 Tuff in Japan. The Tuff is to the QE515 what the QE305 is to the QE405. It’s the earlier Japan only version of the same pencil. The QE405f/407f model is, in essence, the same pencil as the QE405, but in different colors and was released about 15 years after the QE405. Make sense?
Absolutely! Thank you. I can’t wait to share this in a video. I absolutely love it when we can trace a product’s development like this.
The photos I am sending will, hopefully, help with drawing the line from the first twist erase through the lineup. Can’t wait to see the video!
Seems more New Old Stock ones just listed by some seller on eBay:
The original Twist Erase and its variants are some of my favorite pencils. I remember I gave away a few of them back when I first started collecting them about 15 years ago and quite regret that now. I still have quite a few left. I just recently purchased a box each of the Frost variants in 0.5 and 0.7, a “grail” purchase of mine. Good luck with your hunt.
You have all of the frost variants?
Just blue and orange (for now). I have a decent amount of the solid colored ones as well. Mostly red, dark blue, and teal.
Let me know if ever you’d like to sell or trade any?
