What it’s like when Knurls collide…

@cytherian, I ended up taking your advice and going straight to Blick. Definitely a better pencil than the Studio.

The Blick Premiers are great pencils, but a little bit on the heavy side. How do you find the Sakura 303? Every picture and review I’ve seen of it suggests that the knurling is cosmetic at best.

All of the pencils in this picture are essentially the same, just swapping parts really.
I do like the Sakura. For a couple dollars, it’s difficult to dislike it.

Is that Sakura 303 essentially a white-labeled Alvin Draft/matic DM0x? Or was the Alvin a White labeled sakura?

There are a lot of pencils in that vein, but they look a bit too similar for it to be a coincidence…

I’m fairly certain that the OEM for all of those are Kotobuki. I’ve taken apart my fair share of these and the core mechanisms are identical.

Yes?!

The old-school draft/matic DM0x’s are Kotobuki white-labels as well?

edit: zooming in, the grip on that sakura is a lot less gnarly-looking than the alvin of old… so at the very least that’s different.

Nice choice – I see you bought two of the Premier. They’re really inexpensive if you buy directly from Blick. About $12 after tax.. The knurling could be more aggressive. But for the price? It’s a major bargain.

The price and my inability to say no are why I bought them both. I do like them. I think the ks02 is more to my liking though. I’m glad I bought them.
