Thank you! And thank you for loaning me these pencils for the video.
I’ll get them mailed off to you this week.
I went ahead and got pictures and video for a P805 episode later.
Sending you pencils to document is a win for both of us. Means I don’t have to do it
Great video, Patrick! And a great subject choice. I’d known very little about this series and there’s a lot of great info in your video. I also like your spirit about documenting a fine vintage discontinued product that deserves recognition as in time items like this will be easily forgotten (outside of the few who actually collect them).
I’d seen the P1075 before (didn’t know it was called “Iris”–cool tidbit) but just assumed the stripes were enameled on, as you often see on Tombow and OHTO pencils in this price range. Your magnification certainly confirms that the grooves were etched and then filled with paint. And so this goes a long way to protecting the stripes from being rubbed off. A very nice touch.
One very minor question – I noticed when you pronounced Pentel that you put emphasis on the 2nd syllable. In my experience I’ve always heard it said with emphasis on the 1st syllable or both rather evenly. Had you discovered anything about saying it differently?
^ I love those commercials. I actually have one of the animation cells from the cartoon firm for the Clic commercial they also did.
Thank you, Gary! This whole thing was Thomas’s idea and his pencils, so he should get a share of the praise. You’re spot on, though; the Iris is one of those models that photos alone can’t do justice, so I’m happy we captured it on video.
As for the pronunciation, I hadn’t really thought about it, but I’m relieved you didn’t compare my voice to Jeff Foxworthy’s! Still, stressing “Pen” does fit, given where it’s coming from.
that’s awesome - bet that was hard to find. I have some orig Scooby Doo and gang cells on master backgrounds, and some Pink Panther, and some old Warner Bros stuff. I’d love to see that cell if you get a chace.
i wanted to remind everyone that our member @Riley181 has a whole tray of these lovely ladies for sale:
Yes – it’s tremendous that Thomas @Knockologist shared his collection with you for this project. First media related knockology collaboration?
Well, now that you mention it… would’ve been funny if you’d added “If you bought a Pentel P1075 Iris, you might be smarter than a 5th grader!”
it was! And i’m very thankful to him for lending them out as he did.
Remember my Pencil Pass concept where we could borrow pencils from each other?
I had forgotten about that, but this is a great application of the concept
Dude that is awesome
That’s terrific – I can still hear his rolling R’s, just by looking at the character.
