I really can’t think of a more whimsical and daring Japanese writing instrument brand than TOMBOW. They’ve made so many unusual and nearly farcical designs. In the La Nave series, “The Oceanic” resembles a fish! Of course, that was a commissioned designer who made a number of rather physically unusual pens and pencils for TOMBOW. The brand also took some standard designs and dressed them up in everything from silver & gold gawdy facets & etchings to youthful colors and patterns.
Some of their patterned designs were very symmetrically geometric. One of my favorites is the “check box” grid. I’d had a mechanical pencil of it sitting in my collection for a long while and then one day I spotted this pencil and pen set. Very unusual to see these. This one comes in a plastic presentation box and comes with a 2-tone carry sleeve that has a curious old-style TOMBOW “T” logo.
If you check the imprint on the refill or pencil reserve tube, you might find a production year. My black checked model says ‘H 7804’. Some other designs in this series that I have come from 1979. I think the general model number is ‘SH-1000’.
I’ve seen that TOMBOW pencil before. It looks similar to the black silver stripe version that is more commonly found. The silver lines are definitely an appliqué, instead of engraved. For some reason, TOMBOW never followed PILOT and PLATINUM with steel stripe etched executive style pens & pencils.
It’s annoying for those people who don’t use that proxy. I don’t use ZenMarket or Buyee listing links. It’s more user-friendly to use the original listing link. I make a point of always doing that for Mercari and YAJ. Also, I strip off all of the unnecessary parameters.
I understand that much but there are many sides to it.
One being that the posts intent may not be shown for the convenience of someone to “buy” it. It could simply be a reference, in which case the inconvenience of taking the time to switch format is just transferred to someone who was trying to make a simple point with a reference. They could’ve also just taken a screen shot of the picture and posted that which would make the “inconvenience” even more so for whatever individual may want to find the listing.
Though I certainly understand what you’re saying, I don’t understand why it needs to be an “fyi” as if to be a sort of unspoken rule.
The flip side of this argument is that Yahoo can’t be seen from outside Japan so when a Yahoo link is shared I end up copying and pasting it in the Buyee or Zenmarket search box. This doesn’t apply for Mercari though. And of course I’m with you on all the tracking parameters.
It’s a simple courtesy, that’s all. People use different proxies. Provide the original listing link, you don’t get the “proxy baggage” in your browser. And yes, a screenshot in addition is nice for reference, because after a time the link will expire (Mercari is very hit-or-miss on that, where some links seem to last forever, while some vanish not long after the listing closed).
Strange. I can see Yahoo Japan just fine from the USA. It’s blocked from your country? In fact, I do most of my searches directly on Yahoo, rather than through a proxy, because of more advanced criteria capabilities.
To me it was never a big deal because I search all 3 options interchangeably because there isn’t one of them that shows all options even with the same search parameters.
To your point, I do try to show the Mercari link on personal dm messages because of personal courtesy as you say, in the public format it never mattered to me what was easy or not easy for another person because, no matter the link, whatever point I was making with the picture of the item was made regardless.
