ThePilot 553/555 (0.3/0.5mm)

I’ve only seen these models on eBay, as a pair. I have yet to see them anywhere else.

Does anyone have any information they are able to share about these models? Along with WHY they seem to be so “nonexistent”?

I don’t know if these were Korean releases, but I do know they’re exceptionally rare.

The H5 insignia is unique, and the use of H55X suggests this might have been an entry-level drafting piece in the H-56X and H-109X lineage.

I love the use of colored rings on the lead hardness indicator window, and I also like how the end of the barrel has a metal flange to create a better transition between metal and plastic.

Finally, I’m a fan of the grooved plastic grips on cheaper pencils. I could see using something like this as a daily driver for sure :100:

The H-555 and H-553 are some of the most glaring holes in my Pilot collection. Haven’t come across them for a reasonable price; the last time they popped up on YAJ (I want to say late 2022 or early 2023), the prices soared out of my comfort zone.

Also, as far as I know, we don’t have a Pilot catalog that includes these pieces. Makes me think they were late 1970s releases, but we still need confirmation.

Their color representation of lead size remind me of the HH-50(?)

(Probably my favorite Pilot pencil…. Still need the 0.3mm, though. AND the red and white versions… :weary::cry::sob:)

Also: Thank you for the response. Even given their rarity, $480.00 USD seems QUITE steep.

That pencil is the ¥500 “starter” model of the H-100X, H-200X, H-300X series.

Any prices you see on eBay—especially from singaporemechanicalpencils—are simply trying to gouge American customers who aren’t patient or resourceful enough to use proxies.

I’ve picked up pieces from Elton here and there over the years, but as his eBay strategy has become increasingly more aggressive, I’ve stopped buying from him.

Same same. I didn’t want to name names, but FUCK has he gone off the deep end recently… it’s crazy

Care to elaborate? Or post an image of those models?

Do they resemble this model at all?

The sleek simplicity combined with weight/quality of this model is perfect in my eyes. Completely different from any other Pilot models. The only other M.P. That comes close is a Pelikan that apparently have “rubber disease” issues.

If I ever get my hands on the 0.3mm I believe I may actually cry :sob::joy:

You posted pictures for both models in question here, so I’m not sure what you’re looking for. (I know you are familiar with the H-100X, H-200X, and H-300X series…)

You wouldn’t be able to sell one of the 0.5’s would you?:sweat_smile:
