Tombow Zoom 808bw… the oddly squat and too-kawaii little rollerball from 1987. The later version in chi-chi black and gold won a Good Design Award but this one felt more true to form and concept of an ‘egg’. I’d avoided cutesy designs my whole life but seeing it in that little nested box finally did me in.
A closer look at the flecked eggshell texture…
In the hand… it takes the standard Tombow water based roller refills.
Gotta make room in my little Tombow MONO MINI tin carry case. Will migrate some newer stuff to other storage boxes.
Tombow treasure to go…
Very cool and obscure find!
That off-white plastic with dark gray flecks reminds me of 1980’s vintage faux-granite. Especially with that pastel green trim. There were a lot of plastic mugs made out of that material back in that decade.
I remember this is from their offical account. Apart from 003, I don’t collect these dumpty pens, mainly because when placing them together with my other collection, they look out of tune with the rest, but I do like this photo.
kawaii = cute?
“Cute with dimpled smile and a heap of sugar on top.”
Now THAT is a definition. You’re my Urban Dictionary for stationery and adjacent cultural things
