The Hues are alive…

Many thanks to @Knockologist for the generous gift of my missing P35 Dark Green. At one time, I’d thought it was a pure black; even now I still wonder if a true black was produced.

In place of a black P35, I have snuck in a P305A instead, an older design with a somewhat similar concept: a molded diamond-shaped grid for its grip, except that it was a raised ridge instead of an undulating tessellation on the Hue.

I recall reading a Pentel blog entry about the Hue designer, Mr Shimizu, reminiscing about the challenges the design posed for prototyping. Apparently the mold makers or sculptors had a hard time of it (I don’t think they used CAD or had 3D printers back in 1998). Here’s a fascinating image of the prototype designs on paper:

As for the P305, I know there are other colors made, but I don’t know if I’ll ever luck on them in the future. If you have them, please share more pix, please!

Wonderful! I really do like the second quartet with the clearer colors… Hopefully not too difficult to find one or two!

The dark green would be my choice of colour!

@drifand I absolutely love your posts and photos!

This is how I imagine you showing up to work each day. (Of course with MPs though!)

This isn’t a bad option for what they have been selling for:

Thank you for the link. I will stay focused on the ‘clearer’ colors

Pretty accurate, except for the suit and tie, haha

For folks who might miss the edited link, here is the Note blog entry about the design of the Hue’s grip. Interestingly, they did not include a (theoretical) P35-A Black in the line-up.

Any idea what this pencil (from one of the photos in the article) is?:
