L-R: Pilot H-233/5, TRUSTY HTR-50S and MX-500
Collecting PILOT should never just be about the hi-mecha holders or even the myriad 2020 Shaker series. I had a lot of fun gathering this mixed bag of designs that featured colorful, Tonka toy-like lattice-grips. I think it started with one of the TRUSTY 0.5, and noticing by chance that Pilot also made a series of funky ballpoints with a somewhat similar trait. So I grabbed the MX-500 as well and they were fantastic for my ‘write match’ project.
Over time, I discovered that Pilot apparently went crazy for awhile and made even more variants for the TRUSTY series. Pastel blue, pink, a vibrant red and violet were tracked down slowly and acquired one at a time.
And of course, the unrelated but similarly styled H-23x series of drafters have quite the charm as well. These were a welcome break from the generally more serious, no-nonsense drafting designs, and I really enjoy the feel of the grips in my hand.
Do you have other Pilot chunky goodness to share? I did consider the lesser seen R12 but the overall feel was ‘too executive’ and far removed from this merry bunch.
