The best financially irresponsible purchase: HI-UNI 3-3051FF

I made an inebriated “sniper bid” on this NOS 3-3051ff Hi-Uni…. And realized I had done so, after receiving the “YOU WON YOUR AUCTION” from Buyee. Curious, I clicked to discover…. An expensive “victory”…. But I digress…

As soon as it arrived at the warehouse, I consolidated with the other three MPs I’d acquired by that time and immediately shipped. Here are this pencils (along with comparison pics with my 3-2050 Hi-Uni for reference).

-3051ff 0.3
-Sakura slide sharp 0.5 (I had never seen before, but love)
-Kitera KS-02 double knock (Blick premiere clone)
-Luddite Postdraw 0.5

All New/N.O.S

-This is the Sakura. Had never run across it before, purchased on a whim. Though it is plastic, something about it leaves me overwhelmingly satisfied with it. Simple and elegant.

Initial observations:

-to my surprise, they are the exact same length. The nose of the 2050 is longer/narrower where the ffmatic-device makes the 3051’s nose “stumpier”.

-they are the same width. I was convinced all day before I was able to compare, the 3051 was thicker. I was incorrect.

-the “finger flick” can only extend lead, it cannot be held down (like the top knock does) to allow the lead to back inside the pencil.

-whether this is a pro or con…. I can’t compare the knurling accurately but to the FFMATIC sticker surrounding most of it .

Overall, I am elated to finally own my original/completely ignorant/solely based on attraction MECHANICAL PENCIL I never thought I’d attain.

Hope this helps anyone fill in any blanks. And please feel free to ask away. My right up isn’t very thorough, so please forgive me for any obvious information I’ve left out.

Feel free to ask anything. If you feel so inclined.:v:

So… should we talk about your drinking problem, or just wait for your next ‘surprise’ auction victory? :eyes:

Does the Sakura Sharp have a metal lead tube?

lol, no drinking problem. But thank you. Just forget my over eager random snipe options sometimes

It was really a surprise gift from “night me” to “consequences me” :+1:

I even forget my sniper bids from the beginning of work to end of day…. I’m a fickle, free folk.

Edit: Don’t trust morning me if he says otherwise.

It does! It collapses inside the nose as you write to “never break lead again!”- box claim. I believe it is a XS-505(?)

I really like the FFmatic logo on the grip. I don’t look at these pencils enough to know if that is a regular thing but I’ve never seen it and I like it alot. It’s got a sort of racing decal type of look to it. “I live my life 0.3mm at a time”

Congratulations- that’s a grail piece for me

Any FF-matic is currently going for unbelievably high figures on Ebay, and I remember it clearly as my most expensive buy so far.

Still, overspending aside, worth every penny: everything from balance to construction, to the ff-matic gimmick, is superbely put together.

Fantastic win on the 3051 and great Sakura find. The Sakura shape reminds me of milled brass. The sluggish chamfer on the hex to cylinder transition is epic.

Congrats on the 3051! I think it will be interesting to try transplanting the ff-matic section onto a colored 3050!

As for the Sakura, I think I got one of those bundled when I purchased my TS-805 ‘PG4 imposter’. It’s definitely a ‘Create Sharp’ with sliding tip and the body has 8 sides like a Kaweco instead of the usual 6. Mine had a 300 yen sticker so maybe it was a ‘TS-305’?

Great, another question, the inner lead container tube is metal?

Thank you!

The box is labeled XS-505, and all the derivations on how to operate are accurate. But it could have been mis-labeled?

Honestly, at this point, I trust your opinion over what it was delivered in haha.

I still haven’t opened up my 2050 . I tried when I first acquired it, but it really didn’t want to budge. I’m still babying the FF function :/. It took some getting used to for sure. Auto feed pencils always wait until there is zero lead visible (and often fail) so it’s an amazing function that I’m surprised is not on any other MP design (that I know off).

I mean the Sakura

Oh that’s good! A box beats out speculation

I’ve been trying to find the name of this pencil for weeks! Thank you!

Ahhhh, right. Metal clutch, thick black lead tube. I was a bit bummed by that.

Having that little bit of weight added would make it the perfect little pencil.

I didn’t go through eBay. I went through Buyee. So probably much cheaper… $500 cough….
