So, I did a little bit of an impulse buy… I should’ve probably asked here before pulling the trigger, but at least I did get it combined with another purchase and saved on shipping. Basically about $14 USD.
I tried searching on-line but didn’t turn up anything. Part of me thought that maybe this is some obscure Chinese brand, but… one thing that led me to think not is the lead hardness indicator. None of the lead holders (2mm) that I’ve got feature this. Pretty unusual. None of the cheap Chinese holders I’ve seen have this. My guess is, the brand had produced some regular 0.5mm and possibly 0.7mm sizes and to save on costs, simply reused the existing body with lead hardness indicator and put in a 2mm chuck system. I’m expecting that this is a simple drop clutch (the clutch blades extending out of the front are usually a dead giveaway). The model number is strange. “PM-614.” Doesn’t look like anything reflective of the lead size.
The Eraser cap looks interesting. Nice 3 ring adornment. And there’s that black bit at the bottom… which I’d not asked the seller to investigate. I’m hopeful that it either has a captive eraser (e.g. vintage Pelikan) or maybe there’s a lead point sharpener inside it.
So… did I just overpay for a $5 pencil that used to be cheap and widely available, or is this a useful curiosity?
