Step right up for stepped tips!

Stepped tips on drafting pencils is expected but these 3 seem to take it to another level. Can you identify them?

No, no, and no. These are hilarious.

Even though i know it is not the way they are set up, this is one of those cases where I would spend the word telescopic for these pencils.

It would be even cooler if they could retract all the steps, as in a Lamy Unic pen.

Are these regular production pencils or is there Burj Khalifa merchandise among the three?

Love the third one.

The one on the left is a current product pencil with a sliding tip. Middle one is a vintage oddball. Right side I have posted before, and it is a double knock, so it’s ’partially retractable’.

Is left the zebra rint?
Middle model 8008 or something of an Eastern European brand? Toz?

Rint 0.3 on the left is correct :white_check_mark:
Middle is a 0.5mm Japanese… lifestyle brand
Right is 0.7mm Euro imprint

Doesn’t Japanese Lifestyle brands usually collaborate with a known maker? If this is exclusively made by a lifestyle brand, then I’m kind of clueless. Tokyu Hands? LoFt? It’s certainly a weird tip, like a multi-layer wedding cake.

The one on the right reminds me of a Blick Premier, because of those bands in the knurled grip section.

The rint is a surprisingly nice pencil for its super cheap price point. The plastic has a nice feel and the slight flare on its grip makes it comfortable to hold.

OK, the cake tier in the middle is made under Sun-Star

Rint has this… smooth grip section that actually feels slightly sticky to the touch. A bit like a layer of scotch tape? Surprisingly grippy! The tip reminds me of a mosquito’s proboscis.

Right corner should be the cult pens double knock. If I am not mistaken it came in other core sizes?

Yep, that’s the one.

Can’t find a large version of the stock photo… will have to try the Wayback Machine. EDIT: Crickey… WayBack doesn’t store much in the way of images. Lots of thumbnails and broken links.

Meanwhile, @Kiwi-d made a review of it and has some nice photos. Here’s one of the grip:

Good job on Cult Pencil! It’s one of the very few double knocks out there in 0.7mm. We were talking about it going out of production in another thread. I’d never noticed just how many ‘steps’ there are on the Cult Pencil’s tip!

Follow-up images coming soon!

And even more steps in the BostonClub’s clip

Interesting reply from Louise at Cult Pens:

Unfortunately we don’t have stock of that one any more to send over a new photo and the original one’s have been lost on the old site. Sorry about that. It was a really popular pencil and we do still receive requests to bring it back - I’ve been working on it with the powers that be and hope they might break soon and think a re-design.

Fascinating. NEVER saw a clip like that before!

Is there a known reason / impetus why they did that double stepped clip? Is it telegraphing something about Boston Club?

I think it’s safe to say that particular design is more about aesthetics than functionality
