I made my own pencil holder out of a ~3/4” dia section of bamboo ~ 4-3/4” tall. I think the bamboo is quite fitting for my Japanese woodworking pencils that live in it. To make it stable, I glued a 1/2” dia section of iron rod to the inside bottom and covered it with a leather pad. I glued a 1/8” steel ‘ring’ that I cut with a hole saw to the outside bottom. I glued a neodymium magnet into the center of it and then glued a thin leather pad over that. The pad prevents the magnet from being very effective tho.
