If it may help anyone to purchase these rare and lovely leads, the national stock number is the identifier used by the U.S. government to order from private companies, also known as the government stock number. I believe these leads date back to the 1990s. The same national stock number was also used by different companies when these companies collaborated to supply the government with the same product. For these offered leads, Faber-Castell, UNI, and E. Faber seem to have used the same number to provide these leads. Here is some 1990 info I found:

Are you a collector as well?
Not gonna lie here, I am not a collector. I fell into a very large stock of the exact item. I don’t have anything else that would coincide with this product either.
When I did the math, I had over 900,000 pieces of this Lead.
That’s over 500 boxes of ziti…

while that maybe the original story, these were bought. roughly 100 boxes of 5X12X12X12
Just out of curiosity, 5x12x12x12 = 8640. Why did you list 8400?

I can vouch for the seller as I purchased a few cases of them from him on eBay. The lead writes surprisingly well for older HB, sometimes I find it can be too light, but this is just right. The prices were also very reasonable. No affiliation other than being a satisfied customer. Not receiving any kickbacks or anything.
