Platinum executive style MP, echoes of PILOT and Pentel

Auction LINK

The seller had a peculiar description… and I couldn’t make out if there was some functional problem with it. The mechanism looks bizarre. I’ve never seen one cut like this. Maybe a sample of some kind? Anyway, I wasn’t sure how much interest there would be and dropped a ¥1500 bid that was topped.

The overall design seems to evoke PILOT and Pentel design language. Interesting piece. Has anyone here seen this model before?

I have that Platinum (seen here), but the tip on the one you pictured looks more articulate and like it has more precise machining.

This pencil has always struck me as unremarkable, but I would have thought more highly of it if it had fine lines rather than the bulbous appearance my specimen has.

Interesting to see your example. I see what you mean about the machining of the tip. What also eluded me in the photos I saw in the auction is that there’s a rather large chromed section just behind the clip (a reflection of the chrome collar just behind the nose cone). I can see it more prominently in your photo. It doesn’t improve the pencil’s aesthetics (IMHO) and facilitates the chance to leave unwanted noticeable fingerprints.

The nose cone shape is appealing, though.

At a glance I could have mistaken this for one of the more recent Kokuyo Mistral models styled after the classic Cross Century.

That is exactly what I was reminded of.
