The brand is “old resta” (OLD REvival STAtionery) and as the name suggests they focus on vintage stationery brands. Since Pilot was originally a FP brand they used that for the design. The pen on the motif is one of the oldest Pilot designs. They also explain a bit of Pilot’s history on a pamphlet inside.
Looks like a drafting leadholder from a remote past, an image evoking objects like the ones manufactured by Theo Alteneder & Sons, or by Eagle, or Berol, or even by Faber-Castell (the US branch of the company). I wouldn’t be surprised if the barrel were made of wood, and the clutch would be either brass, or aluminum.
I’d love to know more about this item. If none here has any data, maybe Dan Linn (a famous Ebayer specialised in this kind of pencils) can help…
…And I knew I was forgetting some relevant manufacturer in my overview. Dixon was the name!
Indeed. The tapering is simply majestic, and the metal rear end looks so aerodynamic… I’d say it almost surely matches the beauty of the Faber-Castell “Tekagraph 9604 Rund”, the rOtring “Art Pencil”, the Faber-Castell “9026 Varius”, and only a few others.
Time to add yet another search results alert — if I can’t find the Mitsu-Bishi, maybe at least I can find one Dixon for a vaguely decent price…
Coming back to the tote bags, it seems like the initial batch of designs got discontinued. The bag shape changed a bit as well. I was going to get a Pentel one as well but I only found new designs.
