Pilot H-1005 in a junk lot

OK, not too junky, but there was a mixed bag here. I was after the antique bovine twist lock/dip pen combo on the left and the faber Partout second from left made up the value for my money, so i didnt really look at the rest much tbh. But when it comes theres a Pilot mech in there with a sticker too worn to read easily, so I look on here to see what it might be and i think its an H-1005, right? Not at all in my collections wheelhouse, but ive got to say, playingvwith this one, I see the attraction!?

When did this come out?

The eraser cap looks a lot like the early clips on the Pentel 11. That cutout for the friction fit is very distinctive.

I really dont know, other than from sources here- it has the slight grain of the first release I saw mentioned and that one is in a catalogue scan as a 1971 release here- First Pilot Drafting Pencil? - #30 by Linus2K
But I’m really a leadholder collector, I don’t look at these mechs much tbh!

Leadholders aren’t my norm but, WOW that thing is amazing looking and makes me want one!

Be careful @Heath
The leadholder hole is easy to fall into…
It started with me and an 0.5 CdA and I told myself that I’m “just a fine leadholder collector” and then I got a clear EF colorbrite 3110 which is 2mm because I like clear, that led me to a clear Uchida 2mm and then that led me to the point of no return

There might be worse things to be “gotten by”…still working on extracting myself, but likley hopeless…

No, no marks on the bovine one. I think it’s maybe one of those pieces that came in a gift set desk ‘etui’ or ‘coffret’ type box, the ones with a wax seal, quill knife, pencil etc. With matching handles? But its got nicer nose furniture than most of those Ive seen.. The blue one is A.W. Faber, and actually a Goldfaber 4600, which I had missed. Hasn’t the nice pointer with the little aperture to release the lead dust that the Partout has, but a solid thing in the hand…

Heres a closer look, with a nib fitted and a close up of the tell-tale pitted surface of the cowbone, caused by blood vessels that are present in most bone, absent in ivory.

Cool piece with the name of the model on the barrel in bas-relief; I only found one with the imprinted name, slimmer than the Partout, and in black rather than in the typical blue-black of the Partout.

I wonder why the Partout is in that colour: F.C. has been impressively consistent with its colour combinations throughout its history —mostly green, with very few dissonances — and I sometimes think that the colour of the blue Alpha Matic is a gentle hat tip to the Partout.

They made the Partout in a few colours. Its a nice pencil. I’ve yet to find the dark blue one though! (Edit: spelling)

Whoah! I had never imagined all those colours were available! Extra-cool!

If you happen to have a spare of one of the other colours, and mine turns out to be the exact dark blue you are looking for, I see room for a trade here. Will DM you about this.

AWF made the “Partout” in the 4600 series and then the 4602 series… the 02 seems a bit "souter, although it still only holds a 2 mm leas ( the colloets are the same)… the 02 weighs about 0.1 oz more than the 00… then there are some other clones or semi clones the Balnce with no real maker’s mark and the “Pitt 2927” …c;lassic AWF…oodles of only slightly tweaked models to keep the design staff busy…

The red Partout in the group picture stands out as “the odd one”: no grooves in the grip area, no tapering in the rear end… Looks like a production error, and yet it sports the same name and imprint as the others. Fascinating.

Also, the beefier 4602 variant reminds me of another F.C. clutch pencil — in standard green, this time — on whose barrel I clearly remember the imprint with a symbol “ø” followed by 2 — 3.15, as the mouth was able to accommodate a wider selection of cores. I don’t have my notes here, so I can’t recall the pencil model number (I should really transfer my written notes on an electronic DB), but I’ll try to find it later on. I am sure, though, it was not labelled as “Partout”.
