Pentel SG45 pencils

I am trying to figure out some more information about these pencils.

What I would like to know is, anybody who owns one of these pencils, could you check the inner reservoir for the date code, and respond to this thread?

Just to start, only 2 of mine have date codes:
Black (really deep blue): 770116
Green: 770210
Brown: no date code, but the pre-JIS sticker indicates 1975 or earlier.

I have been doing some research on these, and would like to find out the manufacturing time period. Hopefully for the (long stalled) new version of the Pentel Pencil Book.

From top to bottom:
Brown: Pre-JIS sticker, no date code.
Brown: Pre-JIS sticker, no date code.
Brown: JIS sticker, dated 780718 (July 18, 1978)
Deep Blue (I wouldn’t consider it Black): JIS sticker, no date code.

Based on what everyone is telling me, it looks like these were a mid to late 70’s pencil that was discontinued by the time the Japanese 1980 catalog came out.

Also these are not SG45, but actually SV5A, C, D & E.

As in we shouldn’t call these SG45??

I have 3000 S55s that I’m considering dumping on your driveway.

You could probably repaint some of those iconic grips in snazzy colors or something

I have been wondering, since these were Silver accents, why would the be SG (Sharp Gold)? This makes sense now, especially with them being discontinued before the 1980 Japanese catalog.

No idea how to decode the manufacturing number, but if the first two digits indicate the year, then Showa 51 = 1976.
