Pentel S55 question

I am working on an update to the Pentel Pencil Book, and would like to add a list of the colors of the grip on the early-70’s S55/7/9 pencils. I have/know of the following:
Black
Maroon
Red
Blue
Light Green
Gray

Those are the colors I am also aware of. The blue is like a capri blue. The green is like an asparagus or sage color.

Same number of colors I have encountered. Just some notes on the colors…

Black - yes
Maroon - or burgundy
Red - this is quite light, some might say ‘pastel’
Blue - this is like ‘aqua’ or ‘turquoise’. Sometimes called 水色
Light Green - pistachio like
Gray - pretty rare

I think most of these colors are from the early to late 60’s. After that time I think they were all black until the translucent versions. These colors are mostly in the sharp grip. I have seen only black and maroon colors in the less sharp grips.

wow, ID tags look great!

Hey @knocktype11 - when you get a minute can you tell us how you made those?

Not to butt in but we use these kinds of tags for our jewelry and other things. They are typically called barbell price tags. They come in different shapes and sizes.

Looks like @knocktype11 made his own. A man with a craft knife, I suppose.

When I was working from home and the zoom meetings were not about me, I would work on these. All imperial units.

I use Acid free paper and archival glue.

The tools are exacto knife, scissors, the ruler, and a cutting mat.

The tags have a serial number, make, model, and indicators for pictures having been captured and and if it has been cataloged.

They had zoom calls specifically about you? That’s impressive. Or concerning.

Well, you know mostly about things I am pointing out. I can work on these things in mettings where where my name may be invoked in predictable periods.

That’s amazingly neat, just like a pencil museum.

Now I learned how to create tags

I’m really enjoying these barbell tags.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Sweet. I’ll have to try this. Thanks for the idea, and how’d you find that SG with the smooth eraser cap (old Pentel logo on clip)?

I bought it from Nimrod.

I have one of the smooth capped SGs and almost gave it away. When I got it I thought it was a franken-pencil where someone had replaced the cap with one from a different pencil!

Is it the one without any marking below the clip, or is it the first SG7 Excalibur? Both of these had the smooth cap and the one-piece tip (as opposed to the press-fit pipe into the tip).
