Pentel P323 mold mark

I have ended up with two P323’s that are basically in similar condition.
The only difference I can see are the mold marks (36 & 38).
Is it safe to assume that if I wanted to keep the oldest, that would be the 36?

No. The mold mark just indicates which cavity in the mold produced that body.

Known Mold Marks for Gen 4.5-5
25-88
P1-P16 (Late Gen 5)

They appear to be in mold sizes of about 16 at this point (25-40, 41-56, 57-72, 73-88).

The best way to tell would be to open it up and find a date stamp on the reservoir.

I forgot to mention that neither seem to have a date stamp inside.

Absolutely not.
u/nimrodd is definitely correct. The mould number tells you very little. If the mould is in production for a very long time, and a lot of moulds are in production, then for example a pencil from #38 could easily be older than one from #1.
