Pentel P105 Black

It was right about 1 year ago that @majkycz_y put up an original Black P105 for sale on eBay and I purchased it.

Now, 1 year later a box of Black P105 pencils popped up on eBay and I grabbed them as well. I always like getting items like this in the original packaging.

Nice grab, and at the perfect price…

I did not even know these existed! As a left-hander, they might suit me quite well - I have always used the P200 series, but find that the metal tip has a tendency to unscrew as I rotate the pencil (in response to which I have developed an instinctive periodic tip-tightening reflex).

The P105 seems to have no tip to unscrew. The only thing that puzzles me is how the pencil comes apart, for clearing lead jams, etc.

The P105 is a very comfortable pencil.

The tip does unscrew. It is a plastic tip with the metal end and pipe on it.

At this point I have not tried to take it apart any further. Now that I have more than the one in my collection, I may try to break it down further.

Ah, sneaky! So the main difference is plastic parts instead of metal. The search goes on.

My ideal design would probably be something with the grip pattern of the P200 series (which I prefer mainly due to long familiarity), but that unscrews higher up like the Smash. I don’t suppose such a pencil exists, or is ever likely to.

Even so, I will be keeping a look out for the P105.

The aimvision pencils unscrew above the grip
You might like the standard, non pro

Yes, I see what you mean. The Aimvision reminds me of the Pentel Graph 1000 For Pro, which is probably my favourite non-P200 Pentel. Even the rubber inserts on the grip are not terrible.

Honestly
The p209 is my go to…
They’re so cheap, a bit of super glue or locktite on the threads won’t hurt anyone

Ha! I have even considered that in the past, but something always holds me back from doing it. Maybe I should just take the plunge and try it.

You could also use a small touch of plumbers thread tape… less permanent solution but adds a bit more grip on the threads

I wouldn’t use anything that permanent, but I would try a little bit of Teflon tape.

I sense that this could be the next Stickergate…

The Generation 3 PN105 that I just purchased had the eraser/refill cap glued on by superglue. It was to fix the big clip that had broken on one side, but they should have removed the cap first.

Generations 1-3, top to bottom. I don't know if it is a difference in the plastic or if it is just that it doesn't have the white text.

I have an old Parker Vector that sort of fits your brief.

Try a tiny drop of purple (low-strength) Loctite.
